Dublin Irish Festival

Post by JRMILLER »

The Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival runs this coming weekend (Aug 6, 7 & 8 2010). It's a wonderful festival, lots of food, music and beer. There are also more people running around in kilts than I have seen at one time before. Last year, I saw dozens of guests wearing their Utilikilts and several band members wearing their band's kilt and uniform.

This year, two of my friends and my wife have decided to join the kilted rabble and all three have ordered new kilts from Sportkilt. They kilts are promised to us this week so I am looking forward to a great festival in the company of good friends and loved ones who sympathize with my enjoyment of kilts and such!

I will post some pics after the event -- come to the festival if you can!

I opened the site and down on the lower right corner was a skirted person in a colorful skirt, my first thought...Nice skirt, Sir... :hide:

Sounds like a bit of fun. Did anybody notice that the picture advertising the 5-k run shows a guy running while wearing a kilt? Pity I can't make it; I'll be staying at home in the other Dublin.

Owen,
Too bad, pretty sure you would enjoy it! I have been told there are more Irish in this country than there are in Eire!

There HAS to be more Irish in the USA than Ireland. Maybe more just in the NE of the USA. In New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey alone. I know Boston Mass. has more Irish than any other city in the state does, and New York City has more Irish than Jews, and in NY with the Diamond trade, there are a lot of Hasidic Jews, probably the best diamond merchants in the USA. Might be more Irish though.. :D :D :D

I attended that festival a few years ago. It was okay, a bit pricey as far as admission costs, and it seemed there were more exhibits rather than items for sale. I was at the Celtic Festival in Dayton, Ohio last weekend. There were several booths selling kilts and accesories.

I attended the Dublin Irish Festival this past weekend in fine company of my wife, and 3 friends. ALL of us were kilted. Sportkilt recently had a 15% sale and this was enough to push my friends and my wife into buying their very first kilt.

For an Irish Festival I was surprised to see 3 kilt dealers, Amerikilts, Utilikilts and an independent company. These places were very busy, selling kilts left and right. People would walk into the booth wearing pants and/or shorts and walk out in a kilt! What a world --- and this was an "Irish" festival -- go figure!

There were more people walking around in kilts than I have *ever* seen before in one place! Someday soon, kilts will spill over into everyday life in a very big way. I continue to do my part!

We started the day at the 1PM Irish whiskey tasting, they featured the full-line of Bushmill whiskey. I liked them all, my favorites are the "Black Bush" and the "21 Year Old Malt". If you ever get an opportunity to attend a whiskey tasting, I highly recommend it.

During the day we heard several Celtic inspired music groups, singers and bands. Also attended a workshop on playing a Mandolin.

We had two meals "bangers" and guzzled plenty of Stout.

Closed the day with a battle of the pipe bands, several of the area's local pipe bands came together and wailed their hearts out for us, it was truly inspiring.

All in all, it was a wonderful festival and I very much look forward to it each year!

John -- It looks and sounds like you guys had a rousing good time. I'm glad to hear it, as well as being glad that kilts seem to be "catching on" with the general populace in the area of the festival.
