Dresses

Post by Milfmog »

Yesterday I was wandering around the local Matalan store looking for a few new shirts for work. I took the opportunity to also look at their current range of skirts, which was pretty limited. However I also found that they had a few long cotton jersey dresses similar in style to the ones that Jack Williams wears.

Out of curiosity I decided to try one on and have to say that I was impressed with the comfort and fit (although the stretchy nature of the fabric made it rather unforgiving of underwear lines  ). I was tempted to buy it but decided against it in the end, largely due to the relatively narrow shoulder straps (not a problem if I wore a polo shirt over it) and the fact that I'd probably only wear it for walking and wet grass dampening the hem would probably be followed by the water wicking up the fabric. I also feel certain that Carole would not be happy about me wearing a dress, she still kicks back occasionally against skirts, and I have no desire to push too hard too soon.

Despite the signs all over the shop saying that all their clothes can now be purchased from their web shop, I could not find the dress listed online, but thinking it might be of interest to others I thought I'd tell the folks here.

Have fun,

Ian.

Ian,
It is a fine balancing act -- the freedom to shop and wear the things that interest you vs. keeping your most significant other happy. There's a lot to be said for a happy wife! Can't argue with the fact that an over the shoulder bag would be more comfortable than anything clinging to my waist. Romans wore tunics that were knee length, always thought that would do the trick!

I keep looking for extra long polo shirts as I reckon they could make an effective short dress for use when out walking. I might even be able to get Carole to accept me wearing a long shirt for kicking around at home and then over time, once she got used to it, be able to push the envelope a little further.

I guess if I had any competence with a needle and thread (or a sewing machine) I could buy two polo shirts, cut the top off one and stitch it to the bottom of the other to lengthen it. It might also be possible to get a little more creative and use a larger size for the lower one to create a fuller skirt either by gathering it a little at the join or by sewing in a couple of pleats below the join / waist.

Oh well, back on planet reality, I'll just stick to progressing the skirts for the time being.

Have fun,

Lands' End sells a short-sleeve "polo dress," available in (women's) regular and plus sizes.

I think they also sell in the UK, though I can't get Google to work right now to find it.

Yeah and watch out for that hour glass wasp waist -
could be a seam busting event .....

These are sometimes referred to as polo dresses -
note the polo (shirt) top.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Here's my chance to try a dress. My wife's aunt gave her a bag full of clothes. in it are several dreses. Her aunt is as tall as me and I'll admit I tried one of the dresses on and it seemed to fit. I think I might check out the rest and see if there's anything I might want to keep. Oh, and there is also a few skirts to try.
