You push the sharp part through the fabric. With pliers you can press the button on the pointed stub. To protect the face of the button, I put a piece of scrap fabric between the pliers and the button. It takes some fiddling to get the button over the first rib of the stub.

And another kilt-look-alike wrap skirt came from the production line.

This time a little longer and made of dark blue twill.

Similar jean buttons on Amazon UK? Not the same design on the buttons though.
