First production from sewing table

As a first from the new sewing table, I wanted to make a denim skirt that would fall about 4" (10 cm) over the knee. I used my regular circle skirt approach. The waist would sit a little higher than usual to obtain a slimmer effect. In the end, it was too slim. Bummer.

The skirt has a cone-like shape and it was too tight around the hips.

A modification is planned. I take the top part apart, shorten the skirt and put the waist a little lower.

I have already a new pattern for the same type of skirt but with a longer hem. And it will be in a black fabric. I'm used to have a denim skirt just above the knee and socks just below the knee. With a skirt below the knee, nobody will see the difference between socks and tights. I know, it is all in the head. ;) But it is my head afterall.

I like the style of your denim skirt.....
I prefer to wear my skirts at my true waist......... This is the indentation above the hips and below the rib cage.
At present I am wearing my hem below my kneecap to keep my knees warm.

I prefer an elasticated waist band or a waistband elasticated at both hips....I usually wear a belt with my skirts.
One of the problems with female size skirts is that some are too baggy on the male hips with my size 12 male waist..weeladdie

I agree with you in the modifications, that is where I always wear my skirts at and the length just below the knee would be great for winter. And it looks great, are you following a pattern or free hand?

I design everything from scratch. I follow two lines, circle skirts and skirts with darts.

For the circle skirts, I follow this program. It is easy to make and in general it fits just right. Because of the loose material, it conceals most of the unwanted bulges and give you unlimited stride.

For skirts with darts I use a standard pattern for the top part of the skirt, more or less from the hip up. With that as a base, I design the flare of the fabric and the length of the skirt. Putting in a zipper and making the waist band right are the most challenging parts of the process.
This YouTube gives you an idea of making a standard pattern.

I started with almost zero experience at skirt making. My first projects were kilts and only later skirts. With every skirt I made, I gained some experience in sewing and handling the machine. I'm still far from good but it is a slow learning process.

I made a follow up after the failure of the denim skirt. This time I used the last of my heavy black twill and used the pattern block from Diane Deziel from YouTube, and some modifications to make the hem wider. I'm still not satisfied because the skirt is a little too long. I have to see what a 2 or 4 cm reduction will bring.

Back to the drawing board, ehh to the sewing table.

bl, a long skirt can always be made shorter but not the other way around ( easily ). Even I have shortened long skirts and I'm a novice at sewing.

I think the skirt looks fine the way it is. I like long skirts for winter as they keep me warm when out.

That one, Sir, to mind is absolutely perfect. Bravo. I'd wear that in a heartbeat. It's got nice lines and a good length, isn't too wide nor too narrow. Just about perfect.

And I'm just a bit envious of that sewing table just so it's known.
