help finding a full length slip

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

help finding a full length slip

Post by Freedomforall »

I have quite a few kaftans that I would like to wear this summer. However, they are all very thin and a slip will be needed underneath. I have searched Google high and low. I even ordered one from Bloomingdale's It was so thin you could almost see as much wearing it, as you could when I was not wearing it. I don't really care for nylon or spaghetti straps. I much prefer linen or cotton and something with wider straps. I found several with lace around the neck and shoulders that look good except for the lace.
Anyone have luck ordering such a garment?

Not really a full-length slip, but Historical Emporium have a number of cotton petticoats that might work the trick if you're not averse to having the weight supported from the waist. They're quite opaque and not in linen, so they might actually be a bit too warm for the dead of summer.

A lightweight sun dress might work. Just have to make sure that it's shorter than the kaftan. Ideally find one that's machine washable and dryable.

We can get full length or midi slips from most of the clothing stores - ASDA, Matalan, Primark, Tescos. It's the short length ( mini ) ones that I have to go online for.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Have you tried contacting the guys who post here in the sewing section? Maybe one of them would be willing to make you a bespoke slip, for a small consideration.
Keep on skirting,
