Fashion Stockings

Anybody wear fashion stockings/hosiery. I mean the kind that have edgy patterns, bold patterning or big polkadots perhaps? Some has flowers on them. Others are backseamed in patterns. Tattoo effects on others.

I wore a pair of heart backseams with a conservative skirt, blouse and jacket combo to a conference dinner/pre dinner drinks. Kind of snazzed up my legs I suppose with very high black croc leather pumps and back seam patterns. It was an easy way to snaz up the days outfit - decorate my legs and wear a higher heel.

The outfit looks great. Considering the skirt is about 14 inches (my guess) I would question the term conservative.

Going back to the late 50's, early 60's you know last century the was an annual list of the best dressed . and for women seamed stockings was a requirement

Hmmn yes - the skirt is around 14'' - not super short for me - I do wear 11-12's a lot but they are more fitted. In retrospect I suspect you're right regardining the 'conservative' look. I tend to ignore my hemline a lot as I do wear a lot of shorter skirts so don't think too much about it, and a lot of dresses present more challenges than the hemline does alone.

As for stockings - well yes - classical seamed stockings are lovely. I enjoy wearing nylons and proper old machine made nylons with the keyholes in the welts so you know they;re the real deal. They do feel barely there on my legs. I don't suspend much because my hemlines are too high half the time. Also I find my feet get a little bit smelly in nylon stockings - and unlike bare feet in my pumps - wearing nylon stockings in my pumps makes my pumps a little bit smelly! Yuk. Normally they just smell of leather and moisturisers but if I wear nylons a lot then they will get a little smelly (not like smelly to other people - like when I take my heels off and sniff inside my shoes - and even a few days kater I can still smell the stocking feet smell. I do rotate my heels - so its not from wearing the same shoes too much etc. Other than that - there is nothing bad about stockings !

If I had legs like yours I definitely would. I enjoy the short skirts but I would never dare to wear them in public myself ( sigh) maybe one day . I don’t think the 14” is too short at all but do you have trouble with showing stocking tops?

thanks Shilo,

14'' skirts are ok for most stockings - I can't wear traditional full Nylons /RHTs etc made in the old style (which are like barely there feeling on your legs - so nice) - and I avoid deeper welted stockings with a skirt mid thigh length I wear Tall stockings and I am lskinny so my stockings sit high on my upper thighs and I have a small waist (27'') for a good suspender belt fit -- so that helps me wear my stockings higher too.

So I would not wear a deep lace top or traditional stocking with a skirt that is mid thigh. It would be a small lace top, or a regular welt, and only if the stocking sits high on my leg - some are a little better than others - hosiery is inconsistent in their sizings too, just like dresses/shoes/lingerie. There'es a lot f inconsistency in these sizings.

In the sitting position, squatting to the floor the stocking is exposed on the back of my thigh - but only for a moment - sitting sometimes a little welt is visible on the back of my thigh - usually only on the leg that crosses over but I don't worry if a little welt shows - I would not want bare leg then stocking as that is tacky, But a little stocking visible as you move etc is ok - but I also know to smooth my skirt etc - which is essential in shorter skirts for tnat reason.

The bigger issue (if you let it be one) is that in reality with fitted skirts (not a-line, skater, circle or volume styles) and higher hemlines like 11-14 inches then its your front of your knickers that will show a bit. Nothing you can do because crossing legs still doesn't prevent it. Just par for the course - it can be limited a lot but in reality you are going to show that triangle to onlookers when you sit, twist, get up, need to use your hands for something else like eating, or having a coffee at a cafe etc. Cars and booth-style seating would be the worst - oh and high stools in cafes/bars/workplaces are a another. Just don't worry about it - its only a brief exposure (ha ha pun intended) !!
Shorter skirts I do bare legs only.

WOW! You look fantastic in those stockings! Your entire outfit just popped with style. The closest I've come to that are cable knit patterned tights I've worn a time or two. At present, the shortest hemline I've worn is 15 inches, at 6 foot 2 with long legs, it makes for a tantalizing combination, but I've been interested in wearing an even shorter skirt, just to see what it would look like.

Seemingly you were at the 19th hole of a Golfclub. Was that before or after doing the other 18?

Must confess I am not a golf fan yet, well I never really applied mself there, and I am more of an action junkie and prefer to be doing more, the relaxed nature of gold is too slow paced for me. Perhaps in years to come I might try my hand.

This is a mid-city cafe and bar, opposite the casino & conference centre - which is very close to work (2 block walk)

I was under the impression that it was a golfclub considering the rolled up towels in the background in one of your photo's.

Cripes... good spotting in the background.
For some reason they have hand towels rolled up like that - as well as air dryers.
I think its part of an attempt to establish themselves as a little premium location
