Shirt Stays?

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

Shirt Stays?

Post by partlyscot »

Have any of you used these? They are a method of keeping your socks up, and you shirt tucked. Apparently they are a big thing with traditional military types. They are fairly long, and intended to reach down to socks, but I was thinking that one could use a shortened version for stockings around the thigh level?

I recently bought a pair. As only one end is adjustable and 4 straps come in a package, I cut them off and sewed the adjustable ends to a 1.5" wide waistband and made a garter for stockings and then sewed the remaining ends to two shorter lengths of elastic and made sock garters.

I had some made off of Esty last year for that exact thing. They were perfect. basically they are a short piece of elastic with grippers on both ends.
