Hello from North Carolina

Post by rlcline »

Hello, my name is Robert and I live in North Carolina. My wife and I moved here over a year and a half ago from Dallas. I own 7 skirts and wear them on the weekends around the house but don't go outside wearing them because people don't do that here. I find them extremely comfortable.

Hi Robert, welcome. I live in Illinois, but am currently visiting family in Maryland. My sister lives in NC. I'm eccentric enough to not worry that "people don't do that here." I'm a people and I do.

Hi Robert,

Don't let the "People don't do that here " keep you from your skirts. When I started wearing my skirts out people did not do that here either, But I am people and now people do that here even if it is only me. I only wear skirts so every where I go I am in a skirt and have found I have no problems with it. Currently I am in Omaha visiting with my daughter for Christmas and do not have anything other than my skirts, I even fly in skirts and do not have any problems.

Welcome to the Skirtcafé.

If your yardstick is "People don't do that here" then there is no form of any progress in whatever field. You would live in a cave and enjoy a Flintstone life. Thinking out of the box and your comfort zone brought us steamengines, cars, planes, sattelites and men on the moon. So start getting out in whatever you feel comfortable to wear and test the water. Build it up. Most of us have been through that process. Check out the stories of members where they tell how they started.

Succes.

According to MOH "people don't do that sort of thing here" also, but I do. Of course she doesn't like me going out in skirts and refuses to go out with me while I'm wearing one. Again that doesn't stop me because people just don't care. I've never had any problems or negative comments - even MOH thinks that I look good in any above the knee skirt. Fred is in SC and Moon is not too far away ( of course that's relative - in comparison to distances over here it's still probably a long way to us, but then you all are used to long distances ).
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Yeah they do. I know of a few members who call North Carolina home who wear skirts. Also Fred, who isn't far away (South Carolina) he wears skirts all of the time, myself, living only about an hour from North Carolina in the Appalachian mountains of southwestern Virginia... I also have been publicly wearing skirts for a few years now with no major reactions.

I sometimes feel that way living in Tennessee. We recently went to Seattle and I felt more at home than ever there. An older lady approached me and told me how nice it was to see a man wearing a skirt. She commented that I looked so natural wearing them, and she sees some men who just look "fake" as she said. I suspect it may perhaps be their own lack of confidence she is perceiving. I have actually never seen a man in a kilt or skirt here at all. I don't let that stop me because it is my life. Life is way to short to walk around in uncomfortable jeans and feelings of regret from not doing what you want. My advice from someone who lives in what I call a backwards place is to just own that skirt like nobody else!

I think you're right, that it all comes down to personal confidence. When I first started I know I had a tenancy to hang my head somewhat low and I seemed to catch more flack for it during the early days. After a few months though, the occasional compliments would sprinkle in. I'll never forget the older lady who approached me at a Captain D's in Bristol TN while eating lunch with my daughter when she said "I just wanted to say... you look absolutely beautiful today!"

Talk about a compliment that just warms the soul from the inside out!

Hello and :welcome: Robert!

Congratulations on deciding to wear skirts! Tell us about your collection. Do you wear them in front of other people at home - other family members or visitors? And what do they make of them?

I hope you don't feel like everyone is berating you for not pushing harder on the skirt-wearing front. You know what your own relationship is like, you are best placed to judge what pace to take things at, if any at all.
Keep on skirting,

Hello Robert,
I too live in NC and wear skirts, although perhaps somewhat less often than I once did, since I don’t get around as I once did. So, unless you live in a really podunk town, don’t sweat it. Be who you are. Don’t let repressive southern provincialism convince you to hide your character.

See you around...
