ote="jamesy"]Spoke with a female friend of ours on Friday and told her about my wearing a skirt. Her response was amazingly enthusiastic and she said she wished more men would, and that she and I could run a campaign to make male skirt wearing a commercially and socially acceptable "thing" for the Gold Coast.

We hatched an idea to do a charity function where all male attendees had to wear a skirt, kilt or dress and proceeds would go to a male charity such as prostate cancer research, men's shed or similar.

What do you think?

Spoke to a male friend who wasn't at all critical and he said based on what I'd told him, he'd like to try too. ...QUOTE

Welcome from S.W. Cornwall U.K.....I am diving in from this one quoted post
There is a very short step from our "Men in Skirts " to any other male skirt wearing activity.
A female friend said ..." I like your skirt outfit "... My opinion is that my skirt outfit would suit her.
" I said "Thank you for your support for my skirt wearing activities..."
"She said " Why are you wearing a skirt ? " ..I said " skirts are a delightfully comfortable garment to wear "
"skirts are the latest fashion for men "

Another day,,I was wearing trousers , She said " Where is your skirt today ? ." ....I replied ....."I had a meeting today "

The following day I said " Are you going to give me a dressing down to day for wearing trousers today ? "
" No " she Replied ...." It is just a good laugh "
...... This is all good fun for the Jamesy charity show......
Are we moving into the world of of considering if it is acceptable for "The Men in Skirts " to exist as
a credible style of male wear......... ?
........ is a " Man in Skirts " just a Pantomime Character who is unsuitable to be part of the male fashion scene ?
This does seem to me to be rather confusing..........Weeladdie
Are we really credible out on the street, or do the community hide their true feelings ?

I trust my friends will bare with me....The wife may not wish to go out on the street with a man who wears a female skirt....
.......A wife might consider it is acceptable for her husband to go out with her on the street while wearing a female skirt......

If the man had a male skirt made to wear whilst he was escorting his wife out on the street , would the view of the community be
any different ? Can the unmarried man pass any judgement in this cenario ?

Are the rules different for a married man to those used by a single man ?

If I push this matter further, try considering the issues regarding the wearing of the Traditional Scottish Kilt as part of the
Heritage of Scotland in the Scottish Community in Scotland ........This is an issue for extended debate....
If you have no experience of this type of life style or its traditions , how can you start waving your personal flag without
causing some disruptions ?

This obviously depends on the specific individuals but I can tell you that my wife objects to anything unbifurcated, regardless of how labled.

Like, women's yoga pants, women's shorts, and women's pants are all OK but kilts and any kind of skirt are not.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Yeah, MOH thinks that it's ok for me to wear fuchsia pink calf length leggings [0] but not a knee length denim skirt. Go figure.

[0] No I haven't even thought about wearing them outside.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Great question. Are we really credible out on the street?

Only time will tell, the question we ask is, "How much time will it take?"

I think we have to force it. That's how my charity event idea came about. I was inspired by a guy in Pittsburg who wore a kilt everyday for 3 months as a fund raising exercise for the local AIDS support group.

I considered the idea of the event being in support of violence against women with the event being on Sat March 30 being the culmination of "March In Skirts" being kinda like Movember; men would seek sponsorship for every day the wore a skirt or kilt with proceeds going to a local women's shelter.

We could nominate a "World Men In Skirts Day" with the same outcome.

If we're serious about this, we need to do something spectacular.

Please share your thoughts.

Another skirted outing this morning. left home is shorts and changed just down the road (I hate having to do this).

Drove to a local headland, parked the car and did the lighthouse walk. At the top, got into conversation with two women in the early 50's I think. Turns out they're sisters. One was taking a photo of the other so I asked if they would like me to take a snap of them together. They agreed and we chatted together for maybe 25 minutes. Not a mention of my skirt. Maybe 20 people saw me and not a single comment or sideway look.

Drove to a local cafe, sat and had coffee and cake. Two young women sitting together near me looked me up and down and smiled, as did the waitress who brought me my food.

Happily sat there for an hour then back to the car and drove home. Changed nearby and got back to work after lunch.

Wife will be out all day tomorrow so guess what I'll be wearing all day!!

Which region of the world are you.....?
Australia's glorious Gold Coast.

My grandparents lived in Falmouth for many years, and I had an uncle and aunt in Mylor Bridge.

Time moves on and circumstances change. I moved from one region to another to a retirement and tourist region.

One of my new friends told me he was asked: " Why does that Gentleman wear a Kilt ? " ..........My friend's replied;
" They are all like that where he comes from."....Fair comment....Who can say if my friend was referring to the quaint
village in Cornwall where I reside, or the hillbilly country from whence I came......................ENGLAND

One of the issues which confuses me , is that many of the Locals ,who have never seen a Traditional Scottish Kilt,
consider I am wearing a Kilt, when I am clearly wearing a skirt.

This is one of the reasons I will be grateful for the day when " Men In Skirts " will be accepted in society and
" The Man in a Skirt " will no longer be a socially challenging lifestyle.

There again I take a second glance when I see a female in a skirt these cold winter days
as the sighting of a "Lady in a Skirt " is a very rare thing..........

Thanks for that Jamesy . The sailing oyster Dredgers still work the grounds out across the water from Mylor Harbour
in the winter months. .... in my "Winter in Cornwall " thread ,I spoke of 800 sailing ships coming into Falmouth for orders
every month....
I used to socialise with an Aussie Shiela from Melbourne ,South Australia who claimed there were more" Spags " in South Australia
than there were in Italy. That is the Aus wine production centre.
I remember one of the Kids at school going out to Aus as a " Ten Pound Pom ".....that was the cost of the Emigration Shipping Ticket.

Back in the days of my youth Hugh Edwards wrote of the Island of Angry Ghosts where the Cray fishermen lived for the season to fish
in the area of ship wreck and mutiny on a Dutch East India treasure ship ....an interesting tale

So, since my last post, I have had a few occasions where I've worn a skirt in public. Again, mainly beach trips and miscellaneous wanderings in and out of shops and cafes, buying petrol and so on.

This week I again did a beach trip and went shopping in a coastal town nearby where I've previously been several times. I bought lunch, then visited three antique stores, one selling vintage clothes and quite casually asked to try on skirts - I was wearing one of course - no objection heard. Didn't like what I tried, on, said thanks and moved on.

Found a second hand record shop, I collect 60's and 70's rock on vinyl - and the guy running the store was in a green cotton mini skirt. There was kind of a nod of recognition, I bought a couple of titles and moved on across the street to a Salvation Army shop managed by a woman and where two other women were shopping. I picked out a nice grey 22" pencil skirt with pockets at the front, size 14, which fitted me perfectly. I bought it (for $2 would you believe) without any comment other than thank you.

I'm wearing it now, my wife is out all day, it is very comfortable and easy to wear with my legs crossed above the knees, something I find very difficult in trousers/ pants. I could so wear this skirt everyday! Skirts are so liberating.

Last week I should add, I had two conversations with trusted female friends who were both all for men wearings skirts. Both said "It's about time", and in our climate where it's been over 30C every day since before Christmas with no rain in that period and none forecast, it makes sense for men not to be subjected to the discomfort of long pants, shoes and socks.

One has invited me to her home tonight for a business discussion - she could become a client so quite legit, and has insisted I go in a skirt... will keep you updated.

So I went to meet the client, it was about 5:30pm when I arrived, in a skirt.

She was starting to prepare dinner and remarked she was short of one ingredient and needed to go to the shop to get it. As my car was parked in the drive I offered to drive her, so off we went. Arrived at the shop, I was oblivious to the skirt. Bought what we needed, drove back.

Nobody in the shop said a word, and amazingly, other that my client commenting she liked the length of my skirt (about 2" above knee) it was like nothing out of the ordinary.

Since then I have had a few days when my wife has been out most or all of the day and, like now, have worn a skirt the whole time. Right now I'm is a slightly stretchy white denim number.

Next week I'm away for three days, have to visit a town 3 hours away and apart from when I'm with clients, will be in a skirt.

AND hurrah! Last night my wife agreed for me to buy and wear a kilt. Watch this space!
