Rainbow utility kilt.

Post by SkirtsDad »

A friend spotted a rainbow kilt advertised which he is very interested in. It ships from overseas, and he has no idea of the quality. Has anyone bought a rainbow kilt like this one? If so, where from and what is the quality like please?

Looks like a kilt listed on a site called Kilt&More. they also have a U.S. address in Seattle Washington.

Hi SkirtsDad

The picture of the Rainbow Utility Kilt which you linked came from the company's, Kilt Homme, French website
https://kilthomme.fr/rainbow-utility-kilt-for-men.html

Here is the same kilt on the company's, Kilt&More, USA website. The reviews for it seem okay (near the bottom of the page)?
https://kiltandmore.com/rainbow-utility ... r-men.html

Here is the same kilt on the company's, Kilts For Men, UK web site but the contact telephone number is in New Jersey, USA.
https://kiltsformen.co.uk/rainbow-utili ... r-men.html

The Contact Us webpage of the UK site has addresses in Greece (Athens), USA (Seattle) and Pakistan (Sialkot, Punjab) but not France.
https://kiltsformen.co.uk/contacts

I suspect that the kilts are made to order in Pakistan?

BTW The two utility kilts which I used to own came from Pakistan (via UK eBay) though probably not the same manufacturer.
Those were well made. :)

The .co.uk site is very coy about where it dispatches from -- which makes me suspect that it's probably not the UK or EU but Pakistan. So for a UK resident, the imposition of VAT and the Royal Mail's greedy £8 customs clearance fee may make an attractively-priced kilt look distinctly less attractive.

Can't have those foreign Johnnies undercutting our fine British businesses by not charging VAT, can we?
Keep on skirting,

Looks to be a lot of stress on those straps & snaps !
And typical of the East Asian Paki Saudi globalplex *
the front apron is smaller width wise than conventional kilts.
The material and labor are on the cheap side factor.
It is that Shipping that is the killing point - but there is
one advantage to that once the kilt is made two day
shipping from halfway around the globe is not unusual.
There is no less expensive method - snail mail does not
exist - there must be a kick-back in global shipping.
The kilts I have had made came by way of DHL shipping.

Another thing for ill fitting kilts the seller maker doesn't
want them returned - return customs and duty are
to be avoided at all costs. You are told they will make
a new kilt to your specs and to charity gift the wrong
size constructed one.

Should not be a deal in ordering one with this in mind.
But the details in measurement and how the pleats
will run (knife box other) is critical.
I have often commented that they are making these
kilts to fit cut out doll shapes in two dimensions failing
to realize that the human body has depth and volume
in other words 3D dimensions.

Also note if the kilt ah er skirt is for the milady man
the waist will be smaller and the hip room more which
will cause problems similar to the images above with
that overstressed stretched apron.

* These kilts are made cheaply all over Asia Pakistan India
and are now appearing from Saudi Arabia.
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

If the Royal Mail stops the parcel at its point of entry, that's where VAT is levied, and the punter has no say in the matter. Of course, the Royal Mail has a big incentive to do this, because that £8 fee is the easiest money it ever earns: a glance at the customs declaration slip, print out a sticker, stick it on, and -- bingo! -- £8 in the bank. Furthermore, the postman may not even have to deliver it to my house, because I'll probably go down to the delivery office to pay up, to avoid waiting another day. It's only when the parcel is declared at £40 or more that the VAT outweighs this clearance fee. So please excuse me if I sound bitter....

The Pakistani made kilts I have are lower quality than I would like (and sometimes than the pictures suggest), but wearable for around the house. I can't say that I plan to buy more.

The narrower apron makes it lay differently than a traditional kilt, but done right can be better, IMHO. The actual Utilikilts have an even narrower apron, with pleats behind it. They lay with no fuss between your legs when you sit, much like a skirt that is pleated all the way around does, only better due to heavier material weight and something about their design. The cheap foreign made utility kilts have less material, and tend to spread apart instead of laying between your legs, meaning they require more care and mindfulness while sitting.

I have couple of utility kilts bought on eBay. No doubt they were made somewhere in Asia. I look for the click and collect option which I don’t think is available to foreign shippers. The cheapest on was £9.99 including shipping. It arrived within a week and fits perfectly. There are better quality ones about but what do you want for that money

I received my Kilt today from CHeap Kilt its the Rainbow kilt shown above.
Overall I'm quite happy with the construction and quality of the kilt.
I will be ordering another one, different design, with a slightly different set of dimensions as THis one is a little tighter in the hips than I would like.
Can't beat them on price and delivery speed, DHL delivered the kilt one day early.
