Claytons Utility Kilts

I have found it difficult to source a utility style kilt in Australia - the au 5.11 website doesn't even mention kilt. I found these which look a bit like utility kilts and thought I would try one of each as they are cheap enough and machine washable.

The lack of pockets can be overcome with a waist bag - one looks like it has pockets but they might be false. Just waiting on arrival........

Actually, those are both pretty cool. I wish they were available in the U.S. without international shipping.

The first one looks fine, quite kilty. How long is it, though? Fine for a wearer of minis, but still quite short for a kilt.

I like this one best: ... 4ad109cf93

Sadly my size is pushing the envelope to a marginal fit and the only color is Grey others out of or not in stock.
The AU size 16 by the sellers chart = 17" length (43cm) 39" waist (99cm) and 41" hips (104cm) ***
*** note only 2 inch difference between waist and hip rather strange normally would expect 4 inches or more even at low waist !

The AU $ is relatively close in value to the US $ so the skirt and S&H is right around $25+

As for other skirt - just my preference - if there are going to be pleats in the front make them symmetrical and box pleated !

AND 17 inches hem length is rather short for any kilt or skirt - bordering on a mini-skirt - some like it short - this is HOT HOT HOT !

I bought two of these one in GREY and the other in NAVY.
The NAVY was not in stock but I made an inquiry about when it would be
and lo and behold they had one in NAVY XL so I worked a deal buying
a GREY and then substituting the NAVY. Shipping time fantastic - seller
is what ever an Australian term for a "stones throw" out side of Melbourne
arrived in 8 days to my door.
Pleased with that I went and bid/bought the GREY one.

Critique: The GREY one is a real dark GREY and not the Khaki light grey
as pictured.
Fabric is: Polyester, Viscose, Elastic
The fit is fine in the waist with just a tad bit of elastic - note zipper in
back center.
The skirt fits somewhere between an "A" frame skirt and a pencil skirt -
it is not a running skirt but will not inhibit long strides like a pencil skirt would.
Front apron has 8 non-functional/cosmetic apt - 1 inch (2.54cm) buttons -
looking at updating the buttons to shinny brass or chrome.
On the sides are three pleats - knife edges facing rear.
Belts on the waist are just for show - no adjustments.
Since I like my skirts short these are ideal - no modesty issues - perfect !

Now for the NAVY one same fitting comments as the GREY with exceptions
the Waist has about an inch less room fits tighter than the GREY.
And the pleats on the left side are facing the wrong way relative to the
right side - might check to see if a tailor can fix without a large investment.
As with the GREY skirt will update the buttons to embellish the look.

Each skirt - AU $11.99 + 14.10 S&H = AU $26.09
US $ conversion - $9.31 + 10.95 S&H = US $21.26

With 8 day S&H this was an outstanding deal.
My Thanks to Heidi at thedepot89 !

Oh as for pictures go to ebay and look up eBay item number: 321334661011

That is a good review of these skirts R.M.
My grey and navy skirts arrived to my Australian rural address not much quicker (thankfully only $7.95 postage for two).
The length is good for me too - only wished I got a size 10 instead of the 12 (playing safe) as it is a bit loose and they are only mock straps and not adjustable.
I like your idea of replacing the buttons - an easy mod that would improve the look for sure .

The weather has got unusually cold this winter so I haven't experimented too much yet or taken pics. I think they will make a good durable knock around skirt which looks OK and is machine washable. Certainly good value. They hang/sit better on me than my 16.5" Tartanista which wants to flare out too much.
The navy blue was a $10 one with fake pockets (hoping they were real) which I dont think it looks as good as the other style.

Great review on these skirts. I looked them up and decided to try one myself. I ordered the gray and will find out in a week or two if I like them.

I received my pleated mini skirt from Australia yesterday. It looks great, and I can hardly wait to hike in it. I picked the gray one and it is a little dark as compared to the pictures. I may order a brown one too. The fabric is light weight and will be great for hiking in warm weather. ... EBIDX%3AIT

Another source for these pleated skirts. I haven't tried them and am not sure if the service will be as good as Heidi at thedepot89 but they might have a full range.
