Kilt Rental Companies and Underwear Clauses

Post by Skirt Chaser »

My goofy husband sent me this news tidbit- "True Scotsmen are told to cover up". Apparently rental companies are finding the kilts returned in increasingly soiled conditions and some now put the necessity of underwear into their rental agreement. You would think people so adamant about being a "traditional" Scotsman would own their own kilt. What that really means is that they are using tradition as an excuse for being sloppy with rented clothes. Ick. :?

I know the companies probably add a premium for the cost of dry-cleaning, but what an opportunity to provide some "tartan" disposable underwear in the hire package. Just for those moments when someone insists - as they usually do - in checking under the kilt!

I agree with you though. Any true Scot wouldn't hire a kilt!

I'm not a scot so can not speak with authority on whether a true Scotsman would hire a kilt or not, but my own view is that the cost of a good kilt is so high and the number of occasions on which it is worn so low that hiring may make perfect sense.

I was amused a while back when a friend had to hire a full formal kilt outfit for a wedding, he's not a scot but the bride was and had asked all the men attending to wear kilts. He rented the outfit from a local gentleman's outfitter specialising in formal dress hire but was somewhat bemused when asked if he'd like to hire underwear for the kilt. Not understanding the question he asked and then regretted it... the company had decided that the best way to keep the kilts hygienic was to provide a short, black cotton, underskirt for those who wished to go without underpants. He was still red-faced when he got to the pub half an hour later :D

Have fun,

Ian.

This topic is outside of the scope of discussion for SkirtCafe. I would hope we all take proper care to avoid ruining our clothing, whether it is rented or owned.
