In their website it is described as "A Unisex Changing Village" which is a wholly new idea to me too.
Definitely more civilised and yeah, self-policing might work too.
Don't know how a guy in a skirt changing into a one piece swimmer or a bikini might be received though or how it would make things easier for Tom, Dick or Harry to wear skirts at school.
I'd freely admit that my age has bearing on my misgivings, I have only ever experienced segregated areas for men and women.
In fact, I nearly drowned as a result of it. 5 years old and I went swimming for the first time ever accompanied by my sisters.
Bold and stubborn I insisted on seeing myself through the male changing area exited to the pond at the 6 foot deep point.
I jumped straight in and was pulled out by a lifeguard. It was about 10 years later that I learnt to swim up to a point.
Steve.

Mixed changing villages are becoming commonplace, thats individual cubicles for men women and children although with separate toilets. The sports village pool on King Street had that setup when I lived up there. Open plan mixed changing would defy common decency and wouldn't be implemented.STEVIE wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 7:22 pm In their website it is described as "A Unisex Changing Village" which is a wholly new idea to me too.

But this is way off the original point of the thread.

Re: No legal duty to let trams pupils switch uniform
I have no problems with mixed changing so long as there are proper, private cubicles. I did once visit a leisure centre which didn't have that at the time - they said they wanted to try the "continental" approach. I changed in a toilet instead and I didn't go back. They changed the scheme some time later and made it separate changing and showers.
I will not get undressed or showered in the presence of the opposite sex.

IMHO - Society has taught people to be ashamed of their bodies.
This is why most, if not all, people will not 'change' into swim suits
unless they are with their respective sex. Even then, body shaming
exists. Why can't people RESPECT others by keeping opinions to
themselves. People come in all shapes and sizes. SO WHAT

Also the parable about the "ugly duckling" who grew into the graceful swan.
Or more telling, even, the entirely valid observation of, "Beauty is only skin deep. Ugly goes right to the bone."
I've been fortunate enough to have known enough "ugly ducklings" who turned out to be spectacular and lovely people once you got to know them, and I've also encountered physically beautiful specimens who upon closer examination were truly ghastly people. Cherish the former, and avoid the latter wherever possible. Indeed, "Content counts!"

Right! It's this whole body shame thing that makes us wear bathing suits. Who needs a suit to bathe?Uncle Al wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 10:39 pm IMHO - Society has taught people to be ashamed of their bodies.

John & Jane Doe Public need to grow up
In the 1997 Sci-Fi movie Starship Troopers, there was a scene of
the 'recruits' showering. It was steamy, crowded and had both sexes
taking showers together. It probably lasted about 90 seconds or so but,
still, military men and women were showering together. No Problem
Why can't people get over the "Nude Thing" as being a "nasty and dirty"
experience When My wife and I were first married, we tried to 'save water'
by showering together (sometimes requiring a second shower later ).
Even later in life she asked me to wash her back for her.
Some things never changed

Re: No legal duty to let trams pupils switch uniform
The swimming baths that I used when growing up had cubicles on either side. You changed in it and put your clothes into a basket and was given a numbered wristband which corresponded to a cubby hole containing your basket. It seemed to work then. Never been in a mixed communal area but then that wouldn't bother me to use one. I am what I am and have what I have. Not ashamed of any of it.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: No legal duty to let trams pupils switch uniform
OK Guys,
That is the leisure facility changing faculties all nicely sorted.
Meanwhile, Tom, Dick and Harry are all on tenterhooks as to what they will get for uniform for the new term.
The suspense is positively killing them!
Ah but wait, Dick is in Scotland so he can wear a skirt. Fortunately, he is also one of the cool kids and can hold his own at fisticuffs too.
Three cheers for lucky young Dicky!
Steve.

Steve,
I don’t disagree with your comments. However, my stated observation was not grounded in reality; it was a statement of what I felt ought to happen.

Hi Ray
In real reality, this actually would be a huge step in the right direction.
When boys like my hypothetical threesome or my own inner five year old can freely choose to wear whatever, then perhaps it will filter upwards to the old folks areas that I frequent.
I rather hope this is what you were referring to in that last post.
