BBC The Why Factor - Why do we wear skirts.
Came across this on YouTube, its from the BBC. Its not all about men wearing skirts, but a discussion about skirts and their history. Discussion about mens and skirts around the middle or so.
Putting a link here, it might make for some good discussion.

I really, really wish we could get beyond the "skirt as oppression" mentality and get on with life. It was getting old a decade ago; now it's a joke in poor taste.

My tuppence or 2 cents worth.
Forget skirts for the moment because for most common people in history there was little or no fashion freedom.
The various sumptuary laws saw to that absolutely.
The real changes started in the early 1900s not because of protest but the harsh realities of war.
Women had to operate in traditional male industries where skirts were impractical if not plain damn dangerous.
Then in the 50s and 60s women made trousers fashionable for themselves and the rest is history.
Now some decades later they have almost carte blanche clothes wise and us poor blokes have to suffer the trousers.
For men wearing skirts, sure there is resistance but it up to us to overcome that and not to expect it to suddenly disappear of it's own accord.
Plain stark choice is the key, personally I feel the oppression in trousers, a literal pain in the ass.
Steve.
