Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
So I am here to let you in on a secret: There are no actual experts. No one knows what it is you should be wearing — not the fashion police bullies, not the rule-makers, not the writers of mad-at-pants manifestos. And I am here, many paragraphs into this long-ass rant about style shaming, with a modest proposal: Wear whatever the hell you want, whenever you damn want.
I really like the last statement of the second article:
Wear whatever makes you feel amazing, not what makes other people comfortable.
It’s not your responsibility to babysit the egos of others.
Quite true

Did you see some of the links referenced in the "Wear whatever" article? Pretty discouraging, like this one that mocks women for wearing puffy coats that are more comfortable/functional than fashionable: https://newrepublic.com/article/140551/caterpillar-coat
If I could find a knee-length (or longer!) coat like that in my size and price range, I'd cocoon myself up in it and never take it off.
