I am glad the men are wearing skirts to support a cause, however, I don't like freedom of dress being side by side with LBGTQ issues. I feel it only further serves to confuse people when they see us dressed in skirts.

I whole heartily agree. Why do MIS have to be attached to LGBTQrstuvwxyz.Freedomforall wrote:I am glad the men are wearing skirts to support a cause, however, I don't like freedom of dress being side by side with LBGTQ issues. I'm so frustrated with this constant attachment.
This is the biggest reason I have for not skirting publicly.
Wearing skirts is comfortable. It does not and will not affect or change my sexuality!
I guess we need to wear t shirts that say " just comfortable"

At least they all look like MEN in skirts and not like cross dressers trying to look pretty.

I think it's primarily ignorance. Folks are trying to rationalise what's going on, and that's the only bucket that comes to mind, even if it's factually incorrect. I really don't sense any overt animosity for the most part. Sure there are some reactionaries who make the connection deliberately to be offensive, but I really think those are in the minority.mishawakaskirt wrote:Why do MIS have to be attached to LGBTQrstuvwxyz.
That depends on how one wants to frame "pretty". I've been called "pretty" in the past, and even "beautiful" a few times -- and that's considering that I am unmistakably male. I dress for myself, not for others, and if somebody finds that attractive then I've brightened someone else's day. It's true enough that "pretty" and "beautiful" aren't usually applied to guys, but in reality, what's "bad" about the words? I'm thinking that it's just convention.DonP wrote:At least they all look like MEN in skirts and not like cross dressers trying to look pretty.

That is the wrong response. You should wear your skirts in public whenever the feeling takes you, to show that any man can wear a skirt. Many onlookers will unthinkingly toss you into the LGBTQWTF bucket, but you can make it clear enough to anyone you interact with that you don't belong there.mishawakaskirt wrote:Why do MIS have to be attached to LGBTQrstuvwxyz.

I once shared that fear...of being lumped-in with gay, TV, trans, or whatever. But I have come to see us all as brothers in the fight against conventional prejudice. So I am willing to accept the labels, and proudly. Those labels will be applied to you regardless, so, IMHO, it’s counter-productive to ignore that fact. We will never be accepted, and society will never be accepting until we ALL get with the program.mishawakaskirt wrote:I whole heartily agree. I think that anyone wearing what they choose is good regardless of reasoning. People will make their own assumptions about someone they know nothing about but that is their folly. I have a beard, wear work boots and have some hair on my legs, so I think that I give a cue to my situation but some might think that I am a failed crossdresser. I don't care what strangers think, at least in a reasonably civilised society. Friends know better and will ask if concerned or interested.

Re: Men wearing skirts in Tiawan
What is the common denominator of LGBT, us, crossdressers, etc...?
We all just want to live our life freely and in peace.
When we unite under that umbrella (of nothing more than the freedom to follow our own paths), then I believe we are stronger together.
Note that there are some in the LGBT (all four letters) that are opposed to what we do. Everybody is different in how they offer their support or lack thereof.
I've had homosexuals laugh at me right alongside of obnoxious rednecks.
Obviously there are some in the G and T group that don't want to be associated with us either.
Meh... to each their own. I could care less.

You, I, and likely the overwhelming bulk of humanity. Really, the thing that spoils it are a very, very few -- and the fact that those few tend to be drawn to power makes the situation worse. Humanity in bulk is a reasonably benign thing; humanity whipped into a frenzy is an entirely ugly and dangerous thing. Right now it's being actively whipped up; remove the creeps in power who are agitating things and it'll return to a reasonable state after a while.moonshadow wrote:We all just want to live our life freely and in peace.

Re: Men wearing skirts in Tiawan
Some years back, post August 2007 when my podiatrist saw me in the Sheer Energy medium support hose my friends in nursing recommended after hearing my complaints about tired, sore legs and the leg cramps waking me up to jump out of bed and stand on the affected leg for a while until it went away....the Dr. said it was a good idea as I had a slight edema around the ankle. (So far, 3 additional M.D.'s have supported that.)
So - I wasn't wearing skirts back then, but I did wear shorts...with the support hose. A friend of a friend decided he couldn't do business with me or be seen with me because it looked 'gay.' Really? We generally did lunch at Hooters...and, well...let's just say my eyes followed the bouncing b....
He was just a friend's friend and not that relevant to me so I just envisioned flipping up the cover and then flipping up the 'Jettison' switch - goodbye Mr. <REDACTED>. Then, as now, most of what I buy is at the supermarket and either skin tone or 'midnight black.'
That's the only 'known' event I've encountered. One guy in my usual supermarket was walking along with his lady and did a CLASSIC double-take, and would have tripped if he lady hadn't caught him. A few looks, here and there from passing strangers. No problems at the church I became a member of, though once I moved up to kilts and skirts I got a few looks from some people when kilted (every time I was there!) but as I became known and shared interesting Scottish history and other tidbits they went away. Over the years others from church has met me out and about, skirted, and were friendly enough. I normally 'dressed up' for church, which meant wearing a casual kilt-suit with a Glengarry cap, minus the sword...though that has been posted on Facebook when I was at the local Scottish Games. BUT, from time to time I've been running late and just showed up as I was, regular black straight skirt or pencil skirt or whatever the outfit of the day was. No raised eyebrows, just regular standing around and talking.
But in regular out and about, who knows what others are thinking.

Re: Men wearing skirts in Tiawan
I have found that when I am running around the town or even in the city I have had no problems with anyone or any business. Sure there are a few double takes but no remarks that I heard.
I have had nothing bad thrown at me either verbally or physically. It is just normal.
I must admit I dress better now than when all I ever wore were denim shorts.
