Now I know why I have stayed out of the political blogs. How about giving him a chance. He was elected 12 hours ago and you are already bitching about how bad The VP could be. No matter what he does it has to be better than what the piece of garbage that is currently in office is doing. And way better than 4 more years of the same that Hillary would give us.

Moon, it's not " .... that bastard Pence .... " it's " .... that b*st*rd Pence .... ". Please show a little decorum as it's allegedly a family forum.

And your phrase " .... think I'm a perverse freak ...." is correct as you are a perverse freak. Perverse meaning contrary to the accepted or expected standard or practice. As in the result of the election was perverse. And freak as in a person, animal, or plant with an unusual physical abnormality, the abnormality is that you wear unusual ( for a man ) attire.

Surely you exaggerate your situation somewhat. In my locale I never feel threatened in any way when out and about in a skirt, although I wouldn't go out alone in the town centre around the nightclubs on weekend nights. Alcohol does tend to alter perceptions and reduce inhibitions a lot. Some of the women wear so little even in the middle of winter that they appear practically nekked. Anyway, I digress. If you feel threatened then moderate your dress somewhat and incorporate some elements of the traditional male. I do and don't feel any the worse for it. I wear strappy tops with jeans and dress shirts with skirts. They match and look good and my objective is to wear what I want and NOT look like a woman.

MOH had another go at me today about the denim skirt that I was wearing. I went upstairs and donned my Pride of Scotland kilt and showed her.

"You look good in that. I like the colours."
"It's a skirt."
"It's a kilt."
"Yes, but it's also a skirt. A kilt is just a specialised skirt just like a pencil skirt or an A-line skirt or a gypsy skirt. Look, no seam between the legs. There are skirts that are designed for men and they resemble kilts only they have useful things called deep pockets and belt loops. They are called utilikilts or cargo skirts and I'd like you to help me make one."
"Why don't you just buy one."
"Because they are not cheap."

So endeth the conversation and so hatches the beginning of a plan to get her to help me make one. In talking to her about skirts I prefer beating my head against a brick wall - at least I get a better reaction out of the brick wall.

inistration, I was already getting worried about what I then termed "go-go banking". It's caused at least two panics so far, including the implosion of '08 that severely damaged much of the world's economic ecosystem. This needs to be reined in.

Reinstatement of Glass-Steagall is problematic, to say the least. The C-suite of the big banks will tell you that Glass-Steagall was repealed because it was unnecessary and out of date (they're wrong), that it was reinstituted in the Dodd-Frank Act (yes, but the devil's in the details) and in its current form it's too restrictive (debatable and again the devil's in the details and enforcement).
Dodd-Frank has since been gutted, so we're right back in 2005 again. One hallmark of this is that it points up that people don't learn, or lessons learnt are discarded when there are profits to be taken. Interestingly, Glass-Stegall was formally repealed during the tenure of William J. Clinton, and not a Republican as many may surmise. This was done very late in his second term, and may have been pay-off to try and get the attack-dogs off his back. A veto of Gramm-Leach-Bailey would have been fully warranted -- and it didn't happen.

And even if you have heard of the follies of the past, are you going to let dusty old history keep you from doing what you want?

I voted and Support Trump. As I've stated to several on Facebook and I'll share my thoughts here and leave it. While neither candidate was what we all like to call the PERFECT choice it was all we really had when you think about it. Yes they both have their fair share of problems but one things for certain Trump didn't cheat his way to the Presidential Elections. I can close my eyes at night and sleep with ease. If Hilary had of made it we'd all be doomed when it comes to the multiple corruption she's already done lying to the FBI and to us Americans. Now no way in hell is either of them perfect but you have to admit if Hilary never cheated her way into this election Bernie Sanders would have been up against Trump. I believe he would of won too but we didn't have a choice in who was running. It's the lessor of two evils but as I give people a chance I'm willing to give him a chance.

Well, the United States got a president-elect that slightly less than 50% of the population wanted, and how much of that was comprised of "protest votes" and entirely torqued-off Sanders supporters is anybody's guess. That lands the thing pretty much where I expected it to -- with about half the populace being frosted about the exercise, although with an entirely different outcome that I'd predicted. When "campaign season" kicked off, I had hopes for a while, but those were quickly dashed and I came to realise that no matter which of the muppets "won" I'd be entirely torqued off and that, in the best of terms, the general population would lose.

Hillary was going to be another four years of Cheney/Dubya, and we've already had 16 of those. Trump, by all appearances, has little self-control, and while that can play well on the telly it's rather dangerous for the leader of a major nuclear-equipped military power to behave in such ways. Contemplate the Philippines Duterte with thermonuclear weapons and long-range delivery systems. Yep, it's going to be "interesting".

Don't blame me for this; I didn't vote for either of the "major players" -- though I did vote. There were a stunning 35 people in the town I live in (population 4,355 as of 2010) who voted the same way on that -- a very distinct minority. Knowing that no matter what happened I'd be torqued off in the morning from the "presidential" "race" I was vastly more interested in the state-wide referendum questions. The sad thing about it was that I wore trousers for the event because I didn't want to make waves the first time I met the local polling-place staffers; I don't think I've been that uncomfortable since the last time I wore trousers back in April.

Hilariously, I learnt of the outcome here first.

Perhaps before the missiles fly I should get my backside out to the Pacific north-west one more time. There's a KI-10 in Seattle I'd like to see again, and several fellow computer historians as well. And I owe Pdx at least a round or two of real ale.

How about no? I'm not going to sit here and hold my tongue while I watch others go all at it elsewhere on the forum. There's F bombs in off topic, this thread has it's fair share of profanity, and yet you do not protest them? Do you and I have a problem?

To paraphrase a remark you made earlier in this thread, if something I write bothers you.. don't read it.

I hope so.

I stand corrected. What went through my mind when I wrote that was "perverted freak". Not sure why my brain didn't communicate to my fingers... but hey, nobody bats a thousand.
Sinned wrote:If you feel threatened then moderate your dress somewhat and incorporate some elements of the traditional male.
Then I'd no longer be free... no dice. I'll wear what I want and what will be will be. Sure I'm a little nervous about the political climate right now but to live in fear isn't living. We must press on.

Good luck, perhaps that will help her come around. And don't discount those brick walls... they never talk back. :)

I hope I'm wrong, but Pence would have to pull a 180 before he's worth any measure in my book. As far as I'm concerned, he's nothing more than a pro-right, Christian zealot, authoritarian prick. I don't know.. maybe he'll get some enlightenment.... maybe hell will freeze over too.

Well, I guess like it or not... a chance he'll get! He's the president elect now, and there's no turning back. I wish him well... may the zealots keep their hands off my freedom.

Be it known that I stand by your choice, as you and I have had many a discussions at the house about this. I respect everyone's right to vote for who they choose without any harassment from me. You, like everyone else who voted have the right to pick your candidate. You voted your heart, and that's cool with me. At least you gave it some consideration and didn't just do like so many people and blindly vote on the party line.

Give him a chance. He just won yesterday no one knows where this will go. . Pray for our country. Take this time to come together as a nation. Don't divide us because of political differences. We can change this world by one Prayer, one act of kindness, faith and hope for our future.

But the problem is most people that voted for the H will not even try to help. We as a country need to come together and work to make it for the country's sake. As could be seen on the news today many came out and rioted in the streets because their candidate lost. WHY??? I wish I could answer that but I can't, it is just mind boggling that they would act in such an uncivilized manor.

Well, election riots are nothing new. It will settle down eventually and the show will go on.

For better or worse, Trump is soon to be our leader now. He won fair and square, and that's just all there is to it.

Again, I wish him all the best.

Been crunching some numbers (just for late night fun)

Getting back to the theme of this thread, interesting note on elections...

It's often said that a vote for a third party is a wasted vote, or that it pulls needed votes from one major candidate or the other.

Well, I just ran the numbers for Virginia, and as it turns out, if every single voter who voted 3rd party as well as the write ins cast their vote for Trump, Clinton would have still beat him by just under 40,000 votes.

So at least this go around, third parties just didn't have the combined teeth to swing the state anyway.

What's also really interesting, and let me just say for the record: Virginia may be blue on the map, but she's as red as they come in reality. Only a small handful of counties carried Clinton, and most of them are highly populated areas in Northern Virginia. Fairfax County (in the D.C. metro area) carried Clinton by several hundred thousand votes. However in virtually all red shaded counties, Trump beat Clinton several times over. I'd say if Northern Virginia was to ever become part of D.C. we'd loose our blue label pretty quick.

However, we had a referendum on the ballot about amending the state constitution in such a way to maintain the states "right to work" status. It was voted down, which I found surprising.
