Our most excellent host Carl has added a whole host of new emoticons ("smileys") to this forum. When you're editing a message, you can get them by pressing "View more Emoticons."

Enjoy! And thank you, Carl!

You are all quite welcome for the additional "smilies"; some went in yesterday, and a few more went in this morning. The funny thing is that I didn't get to see the animations until I got to work this morning -- my machine at home is too slow to do the animation properly. That's the price I pay for running paleolithic gear.

Cheers!

Of course; they wore kilts. Why do you think some were called "velociwraptors"?

call me sad if you like but this has cheered up my day:
When editing a posting, open up the "view more smileys" window. Now resize it by widening and narrowing it and the smileys rush around the screen in a very manic manner.

This certainly cheered up an otherwise hectic and depressing morning for me.

Gus,

you wrote "But they are such fun!" in reference to the "emoticons that jump..."

My opinion is very different, I find them a major distraction and I have been placing people who use them excessively on my ignor post list so I don't have to look at them. Of course, it also means that anything these posters post, is never read by me. If they feel they need to make their post look interesting with emoticons, then there probably isn't any substance to what they have to say in their post.

But like I said, that's my opinion and I know all about opinions.

Just as a technical tip, most browsers have "stop animations" buttons, some of which are permanent (or at least until one releases the setting). I run my browser at home with animations disabled for precisely that reason.

Seems you do, I just wanted to make it clear, the emoticons make me feel better, if you don't want to see my posts because of some childish dislike of "things that make me laugh" then put me on your "foes" list, please! :thewave: :thewave:

I believe that smilies, if wisely used, do add much to postings, as they can convey personal face expressions, as it were, which convey how the posting is meant to be read, ie jokingly, seriously, shocked etc etc. With an occational jumping/moving smiley it may bring some liveliness to the posts, but I do agree that at least any constant use of moving smilies can be a nuisence.
