Got The Prisoner On DVD

Post by ziggy_encaoua »

Finally got the complete series of The Prisoner on DVD & was watching it last night & its just as relevant today as it was in the late 60’s. If nobody has ever seen it & they’re libertarian minded I strongly recommend they track a copy down as it had much subtext about the individual & society.

Gosh! Was it forty years ago? I seem to remember a huge white(?) balloon which mysteriously appeared, then to engulf anyone attempting to 'buck the system', or escape (from some wierd Welsh village). And remote control(?) CCTV cameras? Yeah, very deep, especially in those days! Little did we know, that forty years on, it was about to come true (well, I'm still waiting for that balloon to appear!). Uhu? What's that blocking my window? Arrghhhhhhhh........

This no joke somebody once said to me I believed Orwell too much especially as 1984 didn't happen.

Some people just don't get reading between the lines

Since you've watched them all now, who is Number One, anyway?

It would be wrong to reveal that ecase there are folk who've not seen it

however I'd say the answer to who's #1 is somewhat Nietzschen

Last year I went around Portmeirion where it was filmed and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stayed overnight in the village, which wasn’t cheap, but it gave a chance to walk around before the main gates opened. Well worth a visit if you get a chance.

I love the Prisoner. I too went to the village in Wales where it was filmed. Strange place it is too. It's designed like a mediteranian town, though on the wet and windy Welsh coast!

Just trawling the old threads again and doing a bit of thread resurrection :-)

Portmeirion is a great place to visit - we used to go there in our Caterham (read Lotus) 7 which is one of the car marques that appeared in the tv series. I never saw the show, it was a bit before my time - but I loved the drive out to North Wales to see this odd little village every year. The Boogiemeister himself, Jools Holland, has a fascination with Portmeirion and did a documentary on the place (a chance to get to hear some of his playing at the same time).

Been there, done that, agreed.
