Ray, where do you buy petrol? Last I checked unleaded was £6.182 per gallon with a Pound:dollar of 1.31 gives a price of $8.098. Still way off $10/gallon.

Do not think for an instant that I do not know that! I knew the moment that I saw the damaged sidewall that there was no chance -- and I almost made it home, but had to abort about 1000 yards from there and call for help.

Several of the folks from the neighbourhood offered help and support, which was very kind, very welcome, and wonderful. But, I was all set and a familiar guy showed up to help who recognised me on sight, All in all, life's pretty good.

I just wish I could get work sorted...

I’m not sure you have filled up for a while. Diesel is £1.80 per litre. There are 4.54 litres to the gallon. That’s £8.17/gallon. Applying said exchange rate gives US$10.71 per gallon (8 pints - I know a US gallon isn’t a proper one).

£6.18 = £1.36/gallon. In your dreams! Yes, five months ago. Not now. Unleaded is £1.67 or thereabouts.

I only fill up about once a month and, tbh, I use E5 with an occasional E10 fill and I do so at Tesco which have the lowest prices around so I rarely notice what the prices are. But consulting the RAC site https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/fuel-watch/ they give the latest price on 5/4/22 for unleaded as 162.91 per litre so I'll stand by my figures for the moment, I won't be filling up for another couple of weeks but I will pass by there so I'll look to see what their prices are. I vaguely remember diesel being 176 or something like that. I'll update when I find out.

A friend has just called me to express his outright disgust.

It seems that although the majority of businesses worldwide have withdrawn support for Russia and its citizens, he was able to find Russian actresses on every porn site he checked tonight. He says he was really thorough and his right wrist is sore from all the movement of his mouse (I didn't dare ask if this was a euphemism, remembering a scene from Friends).

Can I ask all members to get in touch with their providers and insist that they take down all Russian porn immediately?

Just sayin'.

and a Dentist (This one) invites the patient to rinse with the disposable plastic beaker with the words 'Try the green fluid, guaranteed non-toxic' and then the admonition: 'Don't crumple the chalice, I need that for the next 18 patients!'

Crumpling the cup would be a bit messy as, with two mouthfuls, I never use all of the mouthwash anyway!

Q: Why did the man take a coil of rope to a soccer game?
A: To tie the score.

Thank you! I’m here all week. Try the veal.
