Posting/Quoting format tip

Post by Uncle Al »

Hi everyone :D

This is an FYI/Reminder of the proper way to "quote" someone "MANUALLY".
The code is [.....] and you replace the dots in the middle with quote to start
the quote. At the end of the portion you're quoting, type [.....] and replace the dots
with/quote to finish the quote. Otherwise - - nothing gets properly quoted.

Using "The Manual" option, lets you go back and copy the portion you want
to quote, followed by your comments about the quote from the post.

Another way is to use the " at the top of the original post, then edit out(delete)
the portions you don't want quoted. Either way lets the rest of the members
know that you're referring to another post or part of a post.

Example;
Incorrect format :arrow:
My dog has fleas
Correct format :arrow: {quote}My dog has fleas{/quote} Change the { } to [ ]
My dog has fleas
To include a members name you would use the following starting format;
{quote=Joe Brown} He's back!{/quote} Again change the { } to [ ]

I hope this "reminder" will help everyone at the Cafe' :D

I'll go back and :hide: under my rock :twisted:

Only quote what you need to note - ya donna hafta post the entire post.
Using the simple COPY & PASTE function and maybe highlighting with BOLD ITALICS UNDERLINING

Keep it short simple concise - - -

Oh and pretty please and Thanks !
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Oops! You need to have quotes around the name, don't you?

Nope, just the words 'quote=name'.

I posted this "Tip" as, over the years, I've had to go back and
correct quoting formats of many members. I'm not 'digging'
at any specific person as this has happened to many people.
Just trying to make things easier for everyone :D

:D I think that sometimes I am guilty of doing it wrong but I always review the message before sending if I am quoting anyone.

Adding Italics, underline and color to the quote after I did the quote. doing it this way and then reviewing before sending helps keep it all nice and pretty. :twisted:
