Missing Person ... Beachlion

Post by K_Highlander »

We have not heard from beachlion in a while.
Last I saw it looked like he was dealing with pancreatic cancer.
I did some web searching and found this obituary:

https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/mcall ... &fhid=9583

The sentence: "Willem enjoyed woodworking, anything mechanical and liked to visit the ocean."
Convinced me that it was beachlion.

I think we all enjoyed his posts in the sewing forum, his engineering approach to designing and constructing skirts.
He was also very active whenever someone started talking about his other passion, woodworking.

And of course his exchanges and encouragement of new Skirtcafe members from the Netherlands.

We will all miss beachlion, aka Willem, may he Rest in Peace.

Post your fondest memories and/or links to some of his posts.

I always enjoyed reading his posts, he was a great ambassador for the cafe.
He loved wearing skirts and going to the beach.
He will be missed by all who knew him here at the Cafe. :(

So long and happy skirting at the greatest beach of all.....

Damn.

Wim (as he was known) was a charming voice, and quite the character. His wit was impeccable, and in the communications I'd had off-forum with him on occasion were always enjoyable. The obituary is almost certainly his, as it matches up with lots of things that he'd shared publicly and privately.

He will be sorely missed.

Let's just be glad that he chose to share his obvious enthusiasm for our common cause.
Whatever else he is beyond the pain of this life and we can be happy for that too.
Let's hope that his immediate family and circle have whatever solace they need in the wake of his passing.

Yes,
From his posts to the Forum he was a very knowledgeable person with a wonderful pair of hands as evidenced by his professional quality woodworking creations and sewing skills.
I remember well when I posted a pic. of our turf shed with a pile of the stuff I'd just stacked he quickly rounded on the faulty run of the braces on the shed doors!
May he walk his long beach in peace evermore.

I suspected something might have happened to beachlion, as I haven't seen him online in a while. I knew he had some health issues he was battling, but didn't know the details, and of course after a few months had passed with no word, I also worried that covid may have claimed him.

SkirtCafe lost a cherished member, one whom I personally enjoyed and admired. He often engaged my post with charming bits of Dutch humor and brought a smile to my face on many occasions.

I imagine he will be greatly missed both in the online and offline world. I know I will miss him.

Thanks for being an all around great guy Mr. Lion.

His last post.... a comical and somewhat awkward moment in the hospital...

When I was discharged last Thursday, I had to change from the hospital gown into my street clothes. An older nurse, 50+ I thougth, was there to assist me if needed.

First I pulled my thong on, still on the bed. The nurse looked a little surprised. Next came my shirt. I had to pin the bag of the drain to it.

I turned to the edge of th bed to pull up my skirt. I had some trouble to get my legs in. The nurse stepped in.

- First your left leg in the left pipe.
I got my leg in and pulled the skirt up to my knees.
- Now the other leg in the other pipe.
My right went in.
- No, you have two legs in the same pipe.
She held the skirt up and tried to get my right leg back in the other pipe, only to find out there was no other pipe.
- What is the use of shorts with only one pipe. I have never seen such a thing.
In the mean time I was standing, pulling up and tighten my belt. With my shoes on I could make a step forward. The nurse was still in unbelief. I told her that it was also known as a skirt. Shaking her head she went away to arrange for my transport to the main entrance.

 That's our beachlion!

I am very sad to hear that news. Yes, his last post was certainly a classic.

Indeed, here's to the ones, whose last remarks were cheerful... may we all depart with such grace and class.

Sad indeed. He was one of the first on the board who conveyed "real person" I'd like to know, almost always with a smile in his words. May we all pass with his grace, and skirted to the end.

It would be nice to think that one of his kin finds this and takes comfort from the words here.
