My turn to do a double take

Post by skirtyscot »

... and when I realised I had read it properly the first time, I was flabbergasted! Truth is stranger than fiction. https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... dApp_Other
Keep on skirting,

Hi Alistair
What this really shows is that there is still so much that we are totally in ignorance of.
Had it not been for the devastation wrought by Covid would we have discovered that a vaccine can be produced in the time scale that was achieved?
As for that article, I would have done a double take too but it does follow an odd logic too. The makers of certain yoghurt type things have a whole profitable industry based on beneficial gut bacteria. They just don't use literal s***e in their marketing strategies.

I had come across this before in a slightly different context. Used in cases where a patient has had their gut bacteria cleared out due to various medical interventions. Not sure how the faeces is introduced in these cases and frankly, I'd rather not know! {Shudder}
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

That very thing (medication for an illness) destroyed all the bacteria in my
sister-in-law's digestive track. They were reaching the point where they
their last option was a fecal transplant and when so far as to test her
daughter to see if it would be compatible with SIL's system.

Fortunately, she was able to avoid the transplant, as other methods of
re-introducing good bacteria solved the problem.

A distasteful notion but seems logical.
