The Electoral College-How It Works

Post by Uncle Al »

This is a quite interesting article. It explains the How and Why the
Electoral College exists.
The Supreme Court Just Confirmed The Electoral College Is Here To Stay

It is an interesting article, but misleading and unconvincing. The headline is
The Supreme Court Just Confirmed The Electoral College Is Here To Stay.
It then admits a constitutional amendment could abolish it.
Kyle Sammin discusses the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact saying,
Furthermore, even if the result it was trying to bring about was lawful (it isn’t), as an interstate compact unauthorized by Congress, it would violate the Constitution.

But Chiafalo gives us another reason the NPVIC will never come to pass: the electors, the court says, channel the will of the voters. Whatever their original purpose, they now are not intended to exercise any judgment different from that of the people who elected them.
But the Supreme Court case referred to confirms that states have the power to direct the votes of their electors. Some on the right are considering having Republican state legislatures pick the electors this election if the state popular vote is for the Democrat and the Republicans contest it. While very undemocratic, I'm afraid this same Supreme Court could accept this action. And I expect The Federalist would support such an action, also.

I'd thought we got this out of the way in the 1860s when the Hamiltonian model trounced the Jeffersonian model in mortal combat. Why is it still around in the 21st Century? Why? Because it obfuscates things and creates diversions and distractions. Full stop.

This is indeed the place we are most likely to see the things go if Trump loses the election by either electoral or popular vote -- the strategy behind the RNC lobbying, 'training" & suing many State and county election offices presently.

But along the lines of screwing up the wishes of the electorate as a whole; "Superdelegates" are probably are greater problem. This link is to an article that shows how obvious biases and mis-balance of representation takes effect at the party level.

Again, I see people picking sentences to suit their agenda.

My AGENDA was to show WHY and HOW the Electoral College
is to work. Then it shows the process on how to change procedures.
Also, it shows that if some people want to negate the process by
not following the laws governing the Electoral College, what jeopardy
they are placed in.

As a young child I remember watching the Electoral College voting
for the Presidency. Even in Black and White(before color TV) it was
a very interesting process. The delegates gave the votes as required
by the popular vote of the citizens of their state. This is no longer
broadcast on TV. The media leads the way in turning the popular
vote - as they see it - against the legal vote of the Electoral College.

I have an mp4 showing how crooked and devious the current
Democrat Party is, and WHO is funding all the rioting and BLM
movements. I have uploaded it to Youtube. Here's the link -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LJSRCK ... e=youtu.be
This link is where the founders of Black Lives Matter admit they are TRAINED MARXISTS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAC5sCr ... reload=101

This is NOT the Democrat Party that I knew as a young person. It has
swung so far left, it's almost off the page.

Many key points are below but the link to the entire 92 page document is at
the very end. It is hard to believe this is proposed in America by a major party.

The 2020 Democratic Party Platform is now posted on the internet. It's
an all-encompassing and mind-boggling 92 pages telling how a DNC
House, Senate, and President would run the United States.

It clearly states exactly how the DNC proposes to handle every problem
faced by America and it's allies and foes. Including:

*Universal healthcare and Medicaid for all Americans and illegal aliens. (Pg 61)

*$15 minimum wage

*Immediate citizenship for illegals (Pg 63)

*Free college (Pg 65)

*Forgiveness of student loans (Pg 71)

*Eliminate border walls and Immigration Enforcement (Pg 62, 64 & 65)

*Make Washington D.C. the 51st State.

*Abortion for all women & girls. (Pg 83)

*$70 trillion Green New Deal, where the USA would be net-zero
greenhouse gas by 2050. But CLOSE all coal & natural gas power plants
by 2035. By 2030 all new construction in the USA must be net-zero
greenhouses.

*Create a U.S. Agency for Global Media to ensure that only accurate
information is reported in the news or on the internet.

*Rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement

*Create a new federal agency of 100,000 people to trace every American.

*Immediately restore voting rights for convicted felons.

*Provide funding to facilitate vote-from-home and mail-in-voting.

*Create a new Federal Credit Bureau (to replace Equifax, et al), and
require banks to use this new credit reporting service that will be
set up to assist low-income people in buying houses and cars.

*Make gun manufacturers responsible and liable for how their guns are
used. (Destroy gun manufacturing)

*Declare and treat drug use as a mental illness instead of an illegal activity.

*Declare the support for the Rights of BLM, Multi-gender, and
preferential treatment for gays wanting to immigrate to America. (Pg 63)

Bye Bye to the America as we know it :!:

To be fair, here's the Republican's platform.
https://ballotpedia.org/The_Republican_ ... form,_2020
It's just a repeat of the 2016 platform, not updated. It says
The current Administration’s refusal to work with
Republicans took our national debt from $10 trillion
to nearly $19 trillion today. Left unchecked, it will
hit $30 trillion by 2026.
Current debt is over $27 trillion. (https://usdebtclock.org/)

There are a few things there where I'd need some more context, but overall it doesn't seem extreme at all. If these are considered the most extreme parts then I think the rest must be positively moderate.

But then again, if the Democrats are considered off the left page, then Europe is the next bookshelf over.

(Honestly though, I'm trying to keep my coverage of the US election to a minimum. Nothing is more stressful than worrying about things you have no influence over. Thankfully the newspapers here are reasonably obliging.)

I wish that was the case here. Unfortunately for us this represents an existential crisis -- and a crisis that will not, and can not, end well for the general population. (The billionaires will be just fine and richer than ever.)

Uncle Al; did YOU read the 92 pages you reference?

I have read most if not all of the pages you cite with regard to specific points, and virtually none of them say what you claim they do. The closest may be on 'abortion" which is actually on page 82, not 83 and it only continues the long standing party policy of supporting access to health services, including abortion information -- but not advocating that all women (girls not mentioned) have abortions.

If I am missing something; please direct me to the quoted lines in context that state your proclamations.

And yes, I do think the bulk of the things raised in the document would be helpful to people, and to the country -- it might bring us back closer to the values we once spoke of and took for granted!
