I'll second Victor on this one.

Getting hot under the collar about ANY introduced subject on this lovely little Forum is totally unnecessary and out of order. Period.

Now looking at Victor's avatar I think it was outrageous that he was allowed wear that top on a sunny day. The Forum Sartorial Police should have drummed him out of the district in short order! Thread drift.

If the old lady's father died in WW2, he was born around 1915-1920. The old lady would have been born around 1937-1946. She can't be born after 1946 because WW2 ended in 1945. Taking the 1937 year, she would have been 13-16 during the Korean Conflict which ran from 1950-53. So her husband would not have been old enough to fight in Korea. The math doesn't add up.

As I said, the story is an urban myth and completely untrue. Of course the arithmetic doesn’t work.

Her husband could be ten years older that her. But it's just a mean-spirited story.

Anybody can "make the math 'work'" if they believe strongly enough. That doesn't change the fact that the story is (1) offensive to a lot of folks, (2) a fabrication, and (3) not funny.
