A rather philosophical question...

Post by crfriend »

This (COVID-19 era) thought popped into my head this afternoon when I was taking a shower and getting ready to head for lunch/supper:

"In an office without walls, where does one hang the clock?"

It turns out I've been fighting this problem for some months' time...

Prop it up like a framed portrait on a desk.

Use the clock on your computer

Wear a wrist watch

Suspend it from the ceiling

The local church?
On a tower in the town square?
On the dashboard?
I got it!

On the rear-view mirror.

Philosophical 2.0...

How does one think outside the box (office) when the box has no sides (walls)?

Moon has begun to grasp the concept...

I tend to think in very abstract terms -- and then apply them to reality. It's the "why" versus the "how" mentality. This is not to say that I did not enjoy some of the very practical thoughts, but my concept was well "out there" in a "place" really isn't and there's no such thing as "private time" any longer.

"Hang it from the rear-view mirror" ranked high on the "practical" list, though, and was appreciated.

I need to get a proper introduction to the couple that live next-door to me. Philosophy professors both. That could be quite interesting as I believe now more than ever that philosophy has a place in our lives. I need clues as to how to apply that to daily existence.

From a guy with a minor in Philosophy (I don't think you can "major" in it; certainly not Master it -- but you can get a PHD Piled Higher & Deeper) ...so guys, how about some suggestions for Carl -- outside the box of course!

At least one can't be driven up the wall pondering such things.

Nurses used to use a watch on a clip pinned to their uniform. The display was upside down so that when they raised the watch to look at it it was then the right way up. Don't know if they are allowed to wear one any more what with hygiene and so on.

Good point, Dennis. I suppose as the wearer only touches the watch, all should be well.

Maybe they were down-under in this topsy turvy world? But then I think it was Einstein that said 'Time is an illusion.'

Maybe along with "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" [BR?] would better meet Carl's need for the abstract: Program than Carl -- let's see AI's answer!

I have solved this one - - -

Hey Alexa what time it is ?

Or Siri tell me the time in Greenwich - I'll convert the result myself !

For more precise time - use your cell phone and dial that Colorado Naval*** Observatory !
*** Colorado has a navy ?

Enough of this time stuff - time is a wasting providing answers !

And Carl you needed to tell time in the shower ? "Rain drops keep falling on your head"
"The rhythm of the shower head may be forth telling " ( I am going crazy !)
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !
