Update on my Wife
Re: Update on my Wife
It is scary, for both of you -- hope, prayer, love and one step at a time are about the best any of us can do; but you have an extra asset in your music -- it can bring healing, weather making it new; or taking comfort from the old and familiar -- good for the soul and good for bodies. May the light shine on you as do our prayers.

Hello Al,
I am so sorry for you and your wife.
Best of luck to you two.
I too will keep you in my prayers.

Re: Update on my Wife
Hello Everyone
Yesterday, I brought my wife home from the hospital - again.
This time NO REHAB. I refused to send her to rehab as she was
unable to maintain any improvement made at the rehab facility.
Now she must use a catheter. That MAY change in the days to come.
The week after the previous catheter was remove, her body re-developed
the trauma and infection which put her in the hospital the second time.
That's why she went back for the third hospitalization.
Her mind(autonomic system) can't control her bladder of when to hold or
release fluids.
Her BP(Blood Pressure) is now under control. When she would go from a
laying down position to a sitting up position, with feet dangling over the
edge of the bed, she would pass out. She now takes two types of medication
to control her BP. She no longer passes out when sitting up. When it comes
to bed time, she takes a medication to lower her BP when laying down.
The main thing is - - she is happy to be home
She's more secure knowing that I'm close at hand. She's not afraid anymore.
She knows she must use a catheter from now on. She doesn't like that but
is willing to keep it if that means she will keep the infections away.
The nurse will be here soon, so, I'll know more info - later.

My wife is developing signs of Dementia and Alzheimer's.
She's under Hospice/Palliative Care now.
This is NOT the way we planned our retirement.

Sorry to hear that Al. I hope that she is comfortable there and you still get to enjoy each other's company a lot.

Re: Update on my Wife
I second what Skirts Dad says.
Don't hesitate to vent -- like a volcano if necessary -- here. You've got a whole lot of caring brothers who are hurting with you.

I am sorry to hear that is happening to your companion - it is a tough journey for you both. There will be quality times still, so make the most of those and ride out the lows as best you can. Your wife is lucky to have you there.

Re: Update on my Wife
This is my sentiment as well. All I can do is wish you luck.
Re: Update on my Wife
Many thanks, everyone
Last night was the 2nd night, since she's been home, that I've
been able to sleep the entire night through. The new medication
seems to be working, keeping her anxiety down.
Maybe there's hope yet

Sometimes hope and sleep are the best medicine we've got -- and oft effective! Added to your persistent help I'd subscribe to that!Uncle Al » Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:32 pm

I wonder, can she find comfort in looking back at her creative things; the kid's books, etc? We had one friend with similar challenges who was markedly better when helping in the kindergarten -- a place with the children who had been so much a part of her life.
