My Weather

Post by weeladdie18 »

Reasonable for last Three Weeks ,Down to T Shirt , Sweater ,Skirt and Trusty Sports Jacket....Then Half an Inch of rain in a week ....
Now building up to a S.W. Gale and another day of rain tomorrow .

I heard last week they had alternate days of Snow in N.Y.

Latest problem here in S.W.U.K. is that with a continuous wet spring the rats have moved into houses and barns.....The suppliers are
running out of Rodent treatment traps and baits....My latest hobby is trying to hunt them down in the most effective manner....Roderick

We had five inches of the stuff last week here, and it stuck around for a couple of days. The general temperature for the past week has been normal for the first week of March.

By our weather saying " Your weather is 8 weeks late this year ".......Usually ours is only 6 weeks late.

I watched the flowers ....My suggestion was that they were 6 weeks late.....
Some of the beach fishing boats got away in beginning of march.....after two weeks they had to pull all the fleet
out of the harbour and back up the beach. The harbour dries out and faces North East....

Our Lizard Point fleet could not get away as their slipway faces South and they lie to moorings.
Now this Virus has messed up the whole fleet as they cannot export 75 % of their catch.
A couple of my friends and I were considering getting into a new project this year....There is now no point in taking the boat
down to another beach as they are going to close the beach for probably 3 months.

We cannot build a new outlet if we check out the new market during lock down .
The who burocractic system of dealing with five agencies of paperwork is unreal .

The suggestion is that we will loose the whole of the season.....

The good news is that I have just heard one of my rats in the bungalow set off one of my new spring traps
only two hours after it was so I will reset the new trap three times again overnight....I wake up regularly
during the night.....The bait is grain.....There is a newly set bait station near by....That gets the rat into
The station to chew on the poison bait until it dies....

I would consider myself to be one of the last hunters in the most dangerous profession in the World....

The next ploy in my extermination project is use a weapon for killing sharks......
Fit a 12 bore cartrage onto a cross bow bolt and fire the weapon into the spine of a shark
when it has been lured alongside a boat with a bait trail.

I am intending to modify the proceedure by sitting in my kitchen at night with a pair of night vision glasses
used by the helicopter pilots ........The result might be that I demolish the kitchen and scare away the rats....L.O.L.

A friend in Bude and another in Wells have been having exactly the same problem with rats, they are over-run by them -- the one in Bude is finding it difficut to get enough sleep because of all the noise they make.

Rats tend to stay well away from our house due to our resident cats and dog. One puts in an appearance from time to time in the garden but is intimidated by the squirrels. My wife has vetoed my solution of the shotgun. She claims the neighbours would call the police if I started up with it in the back garden. Someone I know had them called in a much more rural area for merely testing his. His next door neighbours, who were his in laws, were mystified when they were escorted out of their home to be told there was a gun siege in the other house.

Following a whole month of dry weather our garden got a much needed watering last night and they're promising us more tomorrow. No great amounts, mind, but enough to make everything take off, growth-wise.
Rain here is always accompanied by a drop in temp., so it was overcoat back on to do the dog-walking today. They, together with our four cats see to it that we never have rats visible or audible here.
Our local predators are hooded crows and a very occasional mink.

We had a spate of field mice coming into the house a few years ago and I found the "Little Nipper" effective. This is the traditional spring based one. There is a larger version for rats.

The weather here has been mostly sunny with odd bits of rain. Being confined to the house because of CV I have been wearing a skirt all day, every day.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Thank you gentlemen for your rat reports...My conclusions
are to use a couple of varieties of modern plastic spring traps.
Very similar to the wooden version used with cheese
some sixty years ago....Modern bait is grain soaked in poison.
I set five traps . One was tripped by the rat...The second
made killing an hour later...The more powerful trap was the
one which made a killing.....A different poison is used in the
grain bait for mice.
I might have made a killing with only one trap...
Touch wood I have solved the problem.....
It is recomended to reset the traps with fresh grain bait every
day for a week.
As a back up I used a bait station which can be set out of doors
with an outdoor bait....My unsuccessful attempts at laying
cube bait proved that the rat would take the bait
to its store of food without gnawing at the the entire block
of bait.
One answer to this is to nail the bait to a block of wood so that
the rat cannot drag the bait away.....
I have heard the rats running the whole length of the loft
and climbing up inside the cavity walls.
My current success was not a random attack but a research
of the movement of the rat.
This is rather like the fisherman who lays one pot and the
professional who lays 400 pots....The lobster is unique
as it may run ten miles on a tide .Then it will return to
the initial feeding ground....there are many research projects
which have shed light on the lobsters movements.
Some say that modern domestic dogs are not much good
at catching rats as all they have to do is find their bowl of food
at a given time......Roderick.

Having now found 5 telephone numbers today. I am making
plans to go back on the fishing after a 12 year retirement.
My friends and I have been researching this project for two
years...I can obtain financial investment to 50 % of my current
investment....This type of fishing has been used locally for
over 300 years....My predictions are that I will live for another.
12 years..
Perhaps one of my folk heros is a gentleman who started fishing
when he left school....He got boat which he could work from
0400 to 2200 six days a week....He then bought a new build
for £90 000 and landed £12 000 worth of fish in the first week.
He now has a £20 000 truck and a 3 ton trailer to land his fish.

Traps YES - Poison - use an awful amount of care here least you poison one of your or neighbors pets.
You poison the rat and the rat become food for the next in the food chain.
Even birds of prey crows ravens the alike can extend the food chain - - -
Really do some serious thinking here.

Use that 12 gauge with whatever is legal and be prepared to patch up new holes for the rats to enter !

Traps and drowning is about as humane as you can get.
Poison - NO-WAY
Trap and let loose in the country side - Like Arnold "I'll be back" not the best idea and your country
neighbors are not going to like this.

AND CAUTION - careful of not getting bit introducing another medical issue !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Considering that 100% of your most recent flurry of messages have been "off topic" it'd be easier to push the delete button on the lot and be done with.
