I keep telling Dennis Sinned that the view from the top of York Minster on a good day would include the entire Australian continent, Denimini and all.

It's a well known fact also that Walt Disney invented the dinosaurs, and awhole lot more besides.

Denimini, Amazing so early in your Summer. One September (1999) I competed at a FISA Masters regatta held in Seville, Southern Spain. For our doubles race at 13.40PM, Twenty to two, it was 45 Deg. Celsius and we Irish frankly can't cope with that. We limped home 5th out of eight crews and for a good half-hour afterwards I could not make any sound with my vocal chords!

Tom, never been to the top of York Minister - I get sick with oxygen deprivation and can't breathe so don't know whether you're right or not. Besides the cloud around here limits the appearance of the edge of the disk we live on. Anyway, if denimini can be seen from the top then surely denimini should be able to see the top of York Minister?

The only time I endured temperatures in the 40's was a two week holiday in Egypt. Fortunately we had a swimming pool there and I spent most of the time in it!

Neither have I. At the time of my visit to YM they were doing a big job on the tower's foundations and visitors were funnelled down into the basement to inspect same. To illustrate just how long ago that was, the Shambles was still standing, they hadn't got round to demolishing it

My first experience of oxygen deprivation was in 1971 at 11,000 feet up an Italian Dolomite escorted by a cousin who guided me down a black slope from there. A view not available on the Aldershot artificial training ski-slope was a village 6000 feet below seen between the fronts of one's skis ! The exertion told heavily on my heart and breathing rate.

First experience of 45 deg + Centipede was in Phoenix Arizona in1967 at the home of family friends who had a pool, of course. Their problem was topping it up with sufficient cold water. One had to wear a hat while swimming, even though I had plenty of hair then.

Denimini -- It is time to put an end to these silly pokes from the old kingdom! I think they must be inhaling too much incense in that cathedral of theirs. The land of OZ may be down-under, but you can look down on their mighty YM from the old coathanger over the harbour! Maybe it is O2 deprivation, perhaps from being so stuffy Even as the lowest continent, your average height runs about twice theirs. And you certainly don't need 12 yards of wool in your skirt to keep warm!

Tom, it must have been in the late 1960's/early 1970's the underpinning of the central tower with a few bits of Meccano and a tub or two of filler. I was in my teens then and more interested in watching the girls in their wide belts walk by the Grammar School I attended. Incidentally my wife-to-be was probably one of them ( although I didn't know it then ) as she attended a Secretarial College further up the road.

Well Tom, I guess I deserved that; but you must have been on the playa (beach) because up here on our mountain, I'm not sure we've hit 30C more than a day or two in a decade. The official reports tend to reflect stations in population centers (something we don't have!). We came here from NSW in Denimini's grand island and found it bloody nippy for the first couple years though the gauge shows our typical low/high as 18 & 26, so I can get away with less than 8 yards. of wool in my skirts! But we can see the gulf from our deck and a pina-colada in either hand is just fine!

Now, where is that bloke from the outback, and 6'3" Aussie--maybe out doing the Aussie Salute while fishing for overland trout -- the Pikers -- them Pommies need a bit of yabber to keep 'em in their place Mate.
