Oldsalt said, If it has no basis in fact than why are the people who are most vocal on taking away guns DEMOCRATS extreme DEMOCRAT s
BIDEN , BUTTIGIEG ,KL0BUCHAR, SANDERS , WARREN HARRIS, BOOKER

YOU WANT MORE NAMES

Are these people figments of the NRA's propaganda

oh yea I forgot the biggest figment BETO O'ROURKE

Dan, We both know that I follow the political news pretty closely and I have not heard of ANY proposals from ANY of these individuals to take all firearms away from everyone in the US. So, if you want me to take your post seriously you need to tell us when EXACTLY did each of these individuals say that they wanted to take away everybody's guns?

After a mass killing in his home town of El Paso, Texas, Beto O'Rourke focused his campaign for the Presidential nomination on a ban on assault rifles, but even that is a far cry from calling for seizing all guns from all inhabitants of the US.

I am also curious how you define "extreme Democrat." All of the political commentators I am aware of consider most of the people you cited to be moderates. In fact, one of the open questions about Vice President Biden's run for the Presidency is if progressives will come out in support of him. We won't know until Election Day. It's beyond me how you can refer to Biden as an "extreme Democrat." Please enlighten us.

Dave, Please get a life!!
And get your head out of your rear end..
Everyone of the mentioned damorats are socialists/communists and have called for the complete disarmament of the American people. This will never happen as then the only people with guns will be an oppressive government and the criminals. And that is not a good thing.....

Gentlemen, let's be careful with this. It's a fairly toxic concept and it's capable of falling off the rails of civility at any point.

If we can remain civil, then fine. If not, I'll step on the thread in a moment's time.

Fred - easy. If you want to debate, provide evidence. I’m learning a lot through this, but referring to the opposition as communists just makes you sound silly. That’s not you. I want to learn things from the viewpoint of you and Dan - but that’s only possible through cogent and reasoned arguments, based on strong evidence of facts.

Over to you, gents.

I'll give you some proof look at the recorded versions of the democratic presidential debates.

The moderator asked the candidates to raise their hand if they are in favor of defunding the police the moderator asked it they are in favor of stricter gun control and confiscating guns in both cases they all raised their hands.

Unfortunately you only get left wing liberal side of the story

Why is it that it is ok to paint Black lives matter in many highly visible places . but if an organization wants to paint something contra they are told that need a permit to do the painting. and the permits are denied.

Lets say there are about 4 major news sources CNN MSNBC the New York Times and Fox news You have to read what fox news is saying to get a full picture of what is going on . But unfortunately with a 3 to 1 ratio you don't get both sides of the story.

The biggest story over the past week is BIden asking for manditory mask wearing. this got all of the headlines.

When Obama was barely in office he was given the peace prize. Yet over the past week President Trump brokered a major middle east peace accord it was hardly mentioned in the papers.

There is so much anti Trump anti gun anti police media that it is impossible for you to get a fair presentation of the facts. And it is impossible for me to full the void

Read Sean Hannity's book Live Free or Die. Yes its going to have a right bias you have to read it than take it and compare it to the leftwing media and form your own opinion

Dan, I watched the Democratic Presidential Debates and what you described simply did not happen. The slogan "Defund the Police" only emerged in the last few months, a good four years after the Democratic Primaries. I am sure that you saw all that on a video; I will also assure you that the video was doctored. My proof is just what I stated. Think about it.

What Middle East Peace Accord? These days I get most of my news off of the newsfeed on my iPhone and it includes plenty of items from Fox News so if there was such an accord and even if the mainstream media was deliberately burying the story, which I can't imagine they would, I'm sure Fox News would be all over it, as they should be considering how vital that area is and how big of a mess it has been for so long, and there has been no such items. At all.

No one has brought up Donald Trump in this thread so I don't know why you are. Trump gets bad press because he is doing a horrible job as President. Over 100,000 more Americans have died because of Covid-19 than ever had to for the simple reason Trump insisted on opening up the country A.M.A. (Against Medical Advice), namely Dr, Fauci.

What is the false news we are getting about guns? I know I'm on solid ground in what I have said about gun violence because I have studied the subject in detail for years.

David,

Here is a link to what I think Dan may have been referring to: https://www.ft.com/content/48c9b481-176 ... a8c9aa86f7

Dan, it is from the Financial Times, quite a conservative journal, and even it does not give much endorsement or credit. The biggest point folks are proclaiming, is that Israel will suspend Settlement building/annexation which is a far cry from any peace deal by any body save perhaps Kushner and Trump's campaign -- and even that is a problem as Netanyahu has already declared they (his govt.) intend to proceed with building and annexation anyway.

Fred and Dan; I'm with Ray -- I'd like to learn where the problems lie, but with the name-calling and labels without supporting documentation and just assertions, we aren't going to get anywhere productive.

What is the basis for your numbers its just another unsubstantiated comment

The only place that people have died directly because of someone's actions are the nursing homes that were forced to take covid patients by certain officials.

Dave,

Dan referred to democratic presidential debates. I think he was referring to the recent debates. See link below.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_De ... al_debates

Dan - could you cite any quotes or commentary from these to support your arguments? That would be really useful. It would be good to challenge Dave with some hard evidence!

Hello Dan,

You’re right!

Being holed up for so long has gotten my sense of time totally bolixed up!

Let’s try again, the debates started in 2019 to keep them ahead of ALL of the primaries. “Defund the police” had not become a slogan until George Floyd was killed. That was 12 weeks ago. Long before that VP Biden was talked about as “the presumptive nominee” because he had won enough delegates to secure the nomination. So my point still stands; no one would have asked the primary candidates where they stood on defunding the police because it wasn’t even an issue yet.

They were asked for a raise of hands on an issue. One issue. NO US major party candidate has proposed confiscating all privately held firearms from everyone in the US. NONE. So it is not something that would have come up in the debates leading up to the Democratic primaries.

While the last actual primaries were held recently, Vice President Biden won the nomination long before that so none of the debates were held after the very idea of defunding the police had come up, so no one would have thought to ask the question!

I expect some of our offshore brothers are thoroughly confused by our system for selecting the holder of the most consequential office in the world. Take heart! I don’t think most Americans understand it either. It is badly in need of an overhaul starting with eliminating the Electoral College; such a brilliant democratic institution that absolutely NO other nation on Earth has copied it!

Dan, there is no question in my mind that the video you referred to is a fake.

Let's take time out of this debate of guns and politics to make one thing perfectly clear:

Suicide is NEVER okay.

I can't believe I even have to say this. It is quite possibly the single most terrible thing a person can do. You will never have a chance to make amends, repent, or ask forgiveness afterwards. And it always harms other people. While I understand many of the stresses that lead to it, suicide is NOT the answer. Not ever.

I had a co-worker take his own life earlier this year. We weren't even that close, and it left me shaken. I can only imagine what his family and friends went through.

And no, there was no gun involved, before anyone asks.

Thought this was interesting...

Just tossing that on the table. I have no opinion on it, other than it being "interesting".

I'm not subscribing to this thread nor do I plan to participate further. I really don't care.

I did like the reference to "the memory hole" (little 1984 joke there....)
