Anyone interested in Aviation?
Re: Anyone interested in Aviation?
An old post exhumed. Video not available any more.
Looking at the attached pic., Man is indeed a new boy on the block where aviation is concerned. Nature/evolution got aerofoil sections right a long time ago.

Re: Anyone interested in Aviation?
To answer the original question, yes, I’m interested in aviation. I got my pilots licence before my driving licence. I was still at school at the time. After a 32 year gap, I flew again a couple of months ago in a Cessna 172. Took off, flew it, landed it. Next year I’ve decided to renew my PPL.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Anyone interested in Aviation?
Almost like Ray, got my PPL almost before the automobile one; and would have bought a lovely little 46 Taylorcraft with a new skin and basic panel back in 1966 for $900.00 USD at the time -- but the dang credit union would loan money for any 4-wheeled landlubber beast but not birds; and my only "rich" relatively gave me the same line. PPL went away as a young man without adequate bucks to support the tryst, but the love of the air did not.
RMA -- just your list sends shivers, mostly good ones, through my soul. A lot of time in twin DeHavilland Otters -- one time setting down 'across the one runway' in a strong crosswind as a skillful arctic pilot floated it down; another memory backing up to the precipice with props reversed, standing hard on the brakes -- flaps away and out on a short strip before the mountain on the end came quite to wings. Most of the memories are more benign but what a world. Starting one cold stubborn DC3 engine with a rope around the cowling and a pickup pulling it across the tarmac! (Could have used some more effective heat inside the fuselage as well as the hanger on that trip -- out of Resolute Bay.)
Thanks for the flashbacks!

RMA, That's a good selection of aircraft to have had the pleasure of flying in.r.m.anderson wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 1:06 am 29 Years with a major airline - - -

757 200 - 300
767 200 - 300 - 400
CRJ 200 - 700 -900
I can say that I've flown in:
* Bell 47 helicopter,
* Robinson R44,
* Bell 200 helicopter,
* Boeing 717-200,
* Boeing 737-200, 300, 400, 700 and 800,
* Boeing 747-400 & 400ER,
* Boeing 767-200, 300.
* Boeing 777-200, 300.
* Airbus A318, A319, A320, A321,
* Airbus A330-200, A330-300,
* Airbus A380-800,
* Fokker F27, F50, F70 and F100,
* Cessna 172,
* Piper Warrior II,
* Beech 200 Super King Air,
* Beech 1900,
* Aerospatiale ATR-72-500, 600,
* DeHaviland Twin Otter,
* DeHaviland Dash-8 200, 300 and 400,
* Embraer ERJ190,
There may be more that I do not recall. I've flown at least 300, maybe more times, in the last 12 or so, about 240 times.
Never any significant issues, few missed approaches, numerous very rough flights (including 8 1/4 hours from Brisbane to Singapore in an A330-300 getting thrown all round the sky once we got above FL270). One flight getting diverted after cirlcling for 2 hours because of a thunderstorm in the vicinity of the destination (got to go somewhere we would not have otherwise gone).
Flown numerous airlines in and out of at least 8 countries, New Zealand, Australia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei.
I do enjoy a bit of plane spotting, especially when there's a rare movement around these parts, such as the Fedex MD-11F, Antonov AN-124, even an AN-24 a few times. Not that far away from Brisbane International Airport, almost under the flightpath in and out of RWY 01R/19L.
Re: Anyone interested in Aviation?
There are a number of people reviewing the SR-71.
