Getting organized

Post by imadube »

It was mentioned on a reply about being united. Well got me to thinking. We could use with a little organization, something like The International Brotherhood for Fashion Freedom. With HQ's in Europe (UK, I think) and U.S. - members could get an I.D. type card, with a "bill of Rights" and that sort of thing. Just imagine that a police car pulls over to ask about your "state of being" because you wear a skirt and you hand them an ID with your rights printed on the bank.
I think I am going to make a window sign for my front landing with "Skirted Man Lives Here" like a warning road sign.
Anyone else think this would be a cool endevor?

Werrrll, we haven't had ID cards forced on us in the UK - YET! And I've conversed with more than one member of the Constabulary on foot, on bike and in car and the (skirt) subject has never been mentioned. It's certainly not illegal, so there's no reason for them (or anyone, for that matter) to question it. As long as you're behaving in a proper and reasonable manner, it's your business.

The problem with the whole topic of "Fashion Freedom" is that one person's take may be so far distant from another. I know that's a shame, but it is a fact of life, esp. where men are concerned. Whilst some have unashamedly adopted a "Wear what the h*ll you like, and d*mn the rest!", others just want the freedom of communal acceptance without prejudice. The 'femme followers' (respect their right to choose) can actually damage the aspirations of the straight tr*user/skirt-swop fraternity. Mostly, Joe and Jane Public cannot be bothered to (and don't) differentiate between "Fashion Freedom" & "Crossdressing". To them, it's the same - and just a reason to jump on the media bandwagon and ridicule.

I cannot say I like the idea of a "warning sign" at all. It's akin to having a flashing sign "Insecure Bloke Inside!" It's saying, "Look at me, I'm wearing a skirt." Up to you really - you know (& have to live in!) your neighbourhood. What (if anything) do your neighbours say about your skirt-wearing, now?

Sorry to come over rather negative, but you did ask!!!!!!!!!!! It's quite a long time since this subject was aired, so it's due a re-run, I reckon!

You make some good points. It will be hard to differinciate the Fashion Free from Crossdressers and you can't really rule out people.
As for the sign, not so much a self-security thing, I was thinking of people that would be affended by the sight and this would keep them out of the house. I guess what made me think of it was a site selling skirts for men (not my style with the "runway" type clothing they made) had T-Shirts pointing out the preferance.
I did one up though so if anyone would like to check it out:

As for my neighbours, we are "outsiders" in a small TN town already (ever seen American Haunting? I live in that town) and only one neighbour ever comes by. She was here at Christmas and I had a semi long denim skirt on and she didn't even flinch. She has gotten use to our excintrisities over the last two years, my wife says she just loves us no matter what.

Do I take it you don't want any house visitors (other than your 'tame' neighbour?)? I don't understand how you think it could 'offend' anyone, unless you included foul language or used a lewd picture on it. Wearing skirts isn't illegal as such (there are still some countries in Europe where it is illegal for a bloke to dress as a woman, i.e., 'cross-dress' [assumed intent to deceive], but not if you just 'swop' tr*users/skirt/sarong).

Not that we don't want any house visitors, just seems most people we do know never chance to come by.
For the Outsiders thing, this little town of "decendents of old settlers" has trouble accepting those of us that buy homes and move into the area. They go so far as to warn "outsiders" about Town laws but let old families do the same things without regard.
When an outside family bought the land of the Bell Witch Cave the locals began telling people they can not go there. Harming the business the family bought the land for. I have been threatened with a lein on my house because I let the grass grow (mostly cause of our driving job) when just down the street a "local" never cut the grass. The Mayors friend has a pile of brush in the same spot for two years, mine was two months old and I HAD to do something NOW or be in violation of Town Law. Needless to say we are tolerated but mostly unwanted. Was a good deal on the house though.

There are places that have rules that your house has to be made with a percentage of wood, brick or stone, you can only use certain colors and of course the grass has to be cut. If I had the money too live in such a neighborhood I would buy a house way out in the country to avoid living under such rules. For me, no deal would be a good enough deal to have to live under such scrutiny as goes on in those neighborhoods.
We once lived in an apartment where people visited each other’s apartments in their pajamas and sometimes in their underwear. It was like one big family. I loved it.
