a Toast to Tom ...

Post by jlhansen »

It has been a mighty long two years since Tom's passing. A man with a vision, a man with compassion and a man with humor.

I miss him as a friend, a roommate at the MSM experience and as a co-conspirator in the old Cafe's "remodeling" projects.

Cheers to Tom ...

I never met the man!

BUT, without his legacy, I'd probably still be stuck in the mire of worrying about what those nameless "others" would say if they saw me in public in a skirt. Seeing that video again, and his birth and death year makes me feel incredibly old. What a horrible, terrible thing the big C is.... :( I was 15 when he was born. 48 years is just not enough, 'specially for a far sighted man like he was. THANK GOD for creating Tom, and THANK GOD and TOM I found Tom's site. Thanks also to those selfless keepers of his legacy.:)

John
Me too, John. It seems like we were just in NY together walking and talking and giving way ALL THAT STUFF! I ran across and old message of his that never got erased from my answering machine the other day. “Hi Lar. It’s Tom Manuel. Just called to talk”. It was kind of nice but eerie.

White Noise = EVP

Ever hear of White Noise? Maybe you should answer him. Sometimes I feel like I can hear my mom in static...I guess I'm just ready for the loony bin. But............ya never really know until you're there. Not the loony bin, the "other" side.

I never met Tom, nor did I partake in the MSM in New York; that didn't happen because I willed it that way, but rather because our paths didn't cross in time.

When I read Mr. Hansen's note the first thing I did was to look skyward -- I have no idea why (not subscribing to the notions of a heavenly, or othwerise, afterlife) -- and then reached for my glass and raised it.

I suspect I'm poorer for never having met the man who made it a quest that blokes should be allowed (nay -- encouraged!) to wear skirted garments, and have a soft spot for the chap. That he was snatched away so young is a shame.

My hat's off to the man! And I'll raise that glass again. Go in peace, kind sir; you shall not be forgotten.
