I only started this thread on a lark - I thought it would be funny if people could come up with ridiculous names marketing "professionals" would give men's skirts in the future.

My wife still calls them kilts but I have been saying man skirt or skirt...why "skirt the issue" of what it is. 😋

There is no reason to “skirt” the issue. A kilt is a skirt that resembles the Scottish Highlands version but has been grandfathered in as acceptable menswear but mostly for weddings and dress up affairs.

I think calling it a man skirt, also skirts the issue.

But words, stupidly, are very powerful. At the risk of getting yelled at for bringing up a topic that has been discussed before, consider this interaction:

Them: Are you wearing a skirt?

You: It’s a kilt

Them: Oh, that’s ok then.

The garment didn’t change but their perception did from cross dressing to acceptable all due to an Emperor’s New Clothes phenomenon.

And as much as this is absolutely stupid, I also ask if the Almighty suddenly decreed that men could wear skirts and be accepted but you must call them kilts, would you really care?

All I really care about is wearing what I want without being subjected to heightened judgements.

It already has a name. It is a skirt and doesn't need to be called by a different name. Men need to accept that they are wearing a feminine garment and wear it proudly!

If you read the original thread's post:
Coder wrote: Sat Nov 19, 2022 5:18 pm Too often the group here "argues" over the right name for this garment when it is sold to men. I just posted a product being sold branded as "pleated skirt shorts". While the description is... accurate it's disingenuous because they are essentially selling a skort. It's also a bit funny, but not hilarious...

Let's say in 20 years male skirts are sold everywhere. What's the worst-possible name that marketers could pick? Think "murse", "mantyhose", etc...

"Murt" would be at the top of my list. "Manskirt" a close second.
I am/was trying to bring some levity to the site - sometimes we get too caught up in serious talk, we discuss (which I think is fine) over whether they should be called a skirt vs a kilt, and we see retailers make up awful names for men's skirts.

Why do you think I almost spat out my teeth when I read Denimini's suggestion of "cod-curtain"? He punted that one into the next bloomin' time-zone!

Coder, is it not bad enough in the singular, why pile on the agony?
