Skirt Brand Names

Post by denimini »

I just bought a new mini, a charcoal stretch denim with unusual large loose side pockets. Looks practical and comfy but I hope no-one asks what brand it is.
"Oh it is a 'Life with Bird' skirt" .......... difficult to say in a nochalent manner.

There are so many weird brand names on skirts:
Cruel Girl ........ I can't be accused of that one yet
Emily the Strange ......... well I don't identify as Emily
G-star Raw ........... sounds macho
nobody ............. how would you go regarding faults
Black Milk ............ ?????
Hunt No More ............ appropriate if it was what you were looking for
The Hiding Tree ............ perhaps for going out in public first time
Missguided .............. that would be right
One Teaspoon ............ well, it is a mini

Looking at the skirt names was a fun project. I have:
French Cuff - without cuffs
Christopher & Banks-- a male name
White Stag - another male image
Jordache
Realtree
Eddie Bauer - a male-sounding name
Paris Blues
Sonoma
Aeropostale
No boundaries - is that us male skirt wearers? No.
Lilu
Old Navy
Tilt
Newport News
Maurices - naughty! A female name.
Faded Glory
New Additions - Oh, Oh, does that mean I might be pregnant?
JJill - another naughty! A female name.
St John's Bay - another male name
Giorgio Sant' Angelico
Bobbie Brooks - a male-sounding name
Scottish Kilt - The only skirt listed I didn't buy used. I also bought an ultra-cheap one from Asia over Ebay that didn't have a tag.

The last several skirts I've bought have been made by 'Universal Thread' sold at Target stores - last summer, 2 white jean pencil skirts, a khaki mini skirt with a 'paper-bag' styled elastic draw string waist and another light blue denim paper bag styled skirt. This summer, I bought a dark blue denim mini and an olive green jeans styled skirt, both with frayed hems.

I own a long denim skirt by “Revolt.” I found it fitting; my living in skirts is my own personal revolt.

I don't think this name woud be helpful for a man wearing a skirt.
Perhaps could confirm perceptions in Daryl's thread

I love Revolt brand.
I own several pairs of shortalls a skort, and a pair of jeans all by Revolt. All items are well made, and wear comfortably. And look decent

The word 'nasty' seems to be travelling in contradictory directions. In UK English, it means unpleasant, distasteful. In the US, it now seems to indicate approval, meaning something like lusty.

It doesn't mean that in any dialect of US English I know of.

Might be like "wicked", "not to bad". We have a local one "deadly" meaning really good. To encourage kids to attend there is a sign "school is deadly".

I agree with geron. "Nasty" among the youth culture can mean "great" or some shade of it. Just Like "bad" can now mean "good". What a confusion of meanings. In computing or language theory it is called overloading when a single word or phrase has more than one meaning, often contradictory.

Just came across a skirt brand "Sweet Vengeance". I think appropriately named only if a man wore it.

Sweet Vengeance - brand name unique to Australia
Not much info available about this line of clothing

Using the hanger as a method of measurement
(normal hanger width is 14 inches in the USA)
The waist on this skirt would be between 26-28 inches maybe a stretch to 30
The hem length would be about 10 some inches (NOW THAT IS SHORT - REALLY SHORT !)

Merry Widow lace waist line
Tulle Hem line

Only SkirtsDad could get away with wearing this ! LOL !

Only other eBay item that I could find was this item: 312811004784

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I just came across a "Joseph Ribkoff" skirt, made in Australia. Never heard of that brand, it wouldn't be a good business name for a car dealership.
