Good news, Gregg.

I thought the Sun never shone on Wales in general, what with all that rain we constantly offload in your direction

At a recent tour of the restored mid-nineteenth century Birr Castle astronomical telescope the guide pointed out that on average out of 365 nights per year there were only 40 clear ones for observation.......only one in nine!

It's no wonder they now build the largest terrestrial-based telescopes on mountaintops in Chile and Hawaii.

Since it looks like the Pacific Northwest will be quite chilly over the next 2-3 weeks, I decided to order some more socks. A pair of OTK socks, another pair of the cashmere knee-highs, and a pair of thigh-high striped socks. Will probably wear the cashmere socks under the thigh-highs, since those are a cotton/acrylic blend, instead of wool. That should help keep legs warm. Rest of the body, probably do what I have been doing and layering a couple dresses under a skirt and a shirt, then throwing on a sweatshirt and jacket. I don't intend to let the 27 deg F high temperatures to force me into long trousers. Partly because I don't have any, and partly because I would never wear them if I did.

I too live in the Pacific Northwest so when I went out this evening the temp was about 40 and when I got home it was in the high 30's F. Knowing that was what I was facing, I chose a long-sleeved blouse with a tank top underneath, a pair of semi-opaque tights, booties and my heavy wool J. Crew miniskirt for indoors and added my peacoat, the beautiful, new scarf Kay gave me for Christmas and my fedora. Everything from my fannie up was warm, my thighs could feel the chill but my calves were surprisingly comfortable.

Much colder I would probably go the trench coat and boots route.

Social norms aren't changed by Congress or Parliament; they're changed by a sufficient number of people ignoring the existing ones and publicly practicing new ones.

I'll be experimenting with various outfits to see what works best at certain temperatures... Past experience has shown that, provided the weather is dry and it's clear out, I can usually get away with a dress, long socks, and shoes down to 31-33 degrees F. And, not a shirtdress style of dress, but, the ones I usually have on. When it's dark and around freezing or there's humidity, then, I do need additional layers.
