Should i wear a skirt in the islands?
Hi all! I am going to be on vacation in the French Caribbean and other than the time on the beach, i am hoping to be skirted or kilted. Now with local customs different from the US, any idea if I'm going to have unpleasant exeriences? A pareo at the beach will be normal but going around the downtown populated areas may prove different. I don't want to offend the locals, but on the other hand I DO want to wear a lightweight skirt while out and about. Wife won't give me any feedback as she only 'tolerates' my skirt wearing and is not really a proponent. So, looking for some objective thoughts from this group. One of the kilts I am considering is a shorter than normal length.
Appreciate the feedback.

If the French Caribbean is full of French people, they will undoubtedly pay you as little attention there as they do to me in skirts in the fatherland.
With the hot steamy climate, what other justification do you need anyway?

With tourists coming from all over the world and cutting loose, clothing is going to be all over the map anyway. I'm sure one more skirt in the crowd won't be a problem.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

French Caribbean in a kilt, I do hope it is a very lightweight one, a sarong maybe a better choice

zhey are ze French of course zhey vill ignore you.
All kidding aside you will be fine. This is a vacation resort area and almost everything goes as far as clothing is concerned. Enjoy your self and wear light weight clothing, because it will be HOT!.

Depending on which 'French Caribbean' island you're going to,
several ocean-front resorts are clothing optional. Many secluded
beaches are too. So, why wear a skirt To blend in with the
rest of the tourists (It is, however, considered Bad Manors
to be 'commando' while wearing a skirt/kilt.)

In any case, be aware of mosquitoes - use insect repellent.

Re: Should i wear a skirt in the islands?
I wear a sarong folded lengthways, wrapped around and tucked in at the waist so that it looks remarkably like a wrap skirt. MOH barely tolerates it on holiday and I wear them as much as possible day and night. I wear a bikini bottom underneath so the sarong can double as a wrap after swimming/sunbathing or more formally on the evening for meals.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

If it is anything like France culturally, you'll be fine so long as you don't wear your burkini under your skirt!
Keep on skirting,

Maybe a couple of ideas from Caribbean Fashion weeks in 2013 and 2015 might help?

This one is perhaps better suited to the beach:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I agree, if its a kilt, it'll have to be my Mountain Hardwear ElKommando.
Thanks again to everyone
