Where can I gat a wrap a round skirt?

Post by hairy »

Anyone in the UK know where I can get a long wrap a round Velcro fastened skirt, one that's a bit like relaxing in a long towel just wrapped around my waist. Getting fed up with wearing towels at homes.

Find a wrap-around-skirt without Velcro and just the rope ends to tie it on.
Well cut the ropes and sew in stripes of Velcro and mission accomplished.
Finding beach wrap skirts would be easy on ebay.
Find one that catches your wrap - zoom in and study the construction.
Go to a store selling bolts of cloth and fabricate one of your own if you
can sew just a bit. If not find a seamstress/tailor to duplicate.
Wrap skirts are basically a rectangular bolt of cloth that is 10 or more
inches wider than the waist and the length to suit your taste - 12 inches
mini skirt - 24 knee - 30 calf etc.
Only need a small tab or two of Velcro applied at the top of the waist
to mate the garment together.
Using stretchable fabric is best which will allow more freedom of movement.
Remember that lighter colors (pastels) and whites are more sheer and will
need to locate the wrap over in critical frontal areas especially if sans under gear !

And of course you could just simply Buy It Now the wrap skirt on ebay -
they are not all that expensive.
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

You will find a lot of them on Overstock.com. I would presume they ship internationally as they are a big operation. Search in bathrobes, bath skirts, and spa wraps.
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...

I was having a go at making one with 4 panels out of nice check material I bought but my sewing machine suddenly burnt out. I want it to wrap around me for when I'm relaxing in my shortest of mini's and we get a sudden knock at the door and also when my legs feel too chill at this time of year.

You might be interested in having a look at this link. Wrap a round skirts are included in the range. They can be brought from Amazon.

I haven't got one yet, but its on my wish list. I do have a number of plain wrap around skirts, but they are all home made by my wife's friend.

Yes that blue one is just what I'm after, I'd be very willing to walk everywhere in that.

You could also try the Philippine malong (and other similar garments), which is *almost* similar to what you want but is a tube of cloth instead of a wrap. I prefer it over wrap skirts because it is not "open" so it is more modest and has all the advantages of wrap skirts.

Skirts are becoming hard to find. Those that are in the market or too long or too short for me. Wrap skirts even harder. I don't like the ones that look like an inverted"M" -- too open at the front for my taste. I have 3 second-hand wraps, that I like, as they are shaped (tapered) to the difference between waist and hips. Useful at the pool too where I can wrap them round, without dragging them on the wet floor, as I would with trousers or a step-in skirt.
I also have some non-wrap or standard skirts, but won't buy any more, as they tend to be restricting.

Martin, surely an inverted "M" is a "W"? :D

I've managed to keep the sowing machine going, I've inherited it from my late mother in law. Never used one until now and I'm really chuffed cuz I've almost completed making my own wrap a round skirt, all I've gotta do now is go out and buy Velcro then complete it. I might also shorten it a few inches cuz just tripped up the staires with it. I've also got a bit of material left over so gonna have a go at a shorter one too, I might have started a new hobby me thinks, but only for these colder day's.

Hairy -
Don't you mean you kept The Sewing Machine going?

If you plant fields, you are sowing seeds.
If you are a tailor or seamstress, you're
sewing fabric together to make clothing.

If you're planting the dress/skirt tree, please tell me what nursery
you found the plants in and do they ship to the USA?

In my opinion, it will be much easier and better to sew an entire length of fabric into a tube rather than add velcro to a wraparound garment. Garments with the tube pattern, such as the malong, are much better for use as a skirt (as it is closed and therefore more modest than a wraparound) and as a "dressing room" for changing clothes (for the same reason why it is better as a skirt).

You could just get a piece of cloth 5' by 5' and sew it at the edges, and that's it.

At last the SEWING machine held out and not only did I finish my skirt but I've been out and about in it. I'm now going to make another only it will be better because I won't make the same mistakes. I usually find it difficult going outside my front door close to home but wearing this one is making that a whole lot easier.

That's great for you. No doubt the future ones you make will be easier (depending on the design of course) and even better. I'm tempted to get a sewing machine sometime, to have a go myself.
