There is definitely a market for kilts, but I believe it to be a small one, with room for only a small number of companies.

Yes the market for kilts is smaller. Right now the market for mens compression tights is 100 times bigger then Kilts.
The utility kilt market has gotten bigger and bigger over the years. But its no were on par with shorts or other clothing.
One thing that is changing in kilt market is fabric and price,

I good utility kilt use to cost 300 bucks, There are now cheaper ones made of same fabric at much cheaper price,
The lower end market u can get kilts 30 to 80 range. With lower cost it do help. But its still a small market that unless something
comes along to give it a trend or something it will stay a small market,
No one mess's with a big guy in kilt

You can even ratchet down the price on the utility kilt by custom design eliminating bells buttons snaps belt loops pockets pleats
fabric and length.
Like that auto insurance company ad "Only Pay for what you need" !
Find something you like - price close to what you can afford - make an offer - the labor is cheap - quality so-so - Shipping now that is another thing.
Most of these kilts come from Pakistan.

Yet the traditional tartan pleated kilts can be found for the same if not less than most utility kilts i.e. Think Stillwater or SportKilt.
And YES the full "tank" kilt to go the formal route now is going to cost a small fortune - best to consider a rental if entertaining only a one and done wearing !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Another supplier which offers a couple of skirts for men is this one in France,
https://www.baisap.com/en-bas/?lang=en

Baïsap's products are obtainable direct or via Etsy.com . They appear to be designed in France and manufactured in India. I've just received the short cotton skirt, and it's an excellent product, very well made.

Thanks Max, it does look an interesting website. The link pages are listed above in GerdG's original links post.
I understand your enthusiasm to bring our attention to a good relevant site although it is good form to introduce yourself first.
Welcome, and looking forward to hear about yourself.

It seems there was some article about men's skirts long ago, but it has gone (removed by the author; maybe moved to his English site, see below). There is the title "página no encontrada" = "page not found". All articles are in the Spanish and they are about Japan. They can be interesting for those, who speak or at least understand Spanish (or use some online translator) and are interested in Japan, but it seems there is nothing about men's skirts. The author of this site is Hector Garcia Puigcerver, European geek and writer, born in 1981 and living in Japan since 2004 - see more (in Spanish) here: https://www.kirainet.com/autor/.
The English site by this author is here: http://www.ageekinjapan.com/ I have found some articles about skirts ( http://www.ageekinjapan.com/men-with-skirts/) using duckduckgo.com (it's possible to use also google.com or yandex.com, of course) and entering "men's skirts".
Everyone should be honest and prudent: to keep promises and, on principle, never to promise anything to anyone.
Sorry for my English. I try not to make spelling mistakes, but for this reason my writing is very slow.

Another link: https://www.voxclamantisindeserto.us/ Vox clamantis in deserto ( = Voice crying in the wilderness) - a blog of a Christian author who wears skirts (among other things).
See - for example - this article: https://www.voxclamantisindeserto.us/20 ... ear-skirts - and this isn't the only article on this topic in that blog.
More articles about skirts on that blog are there: https://www.voxclamantisindeserto.us/?s=skirt

I don’t think so, they just released a new line in the fall and I have received emails from them.

I noticed that Macabi is having close out sales. I tried to phone using numbers on an old receipt, but it seems they are unreachable using such. Tried an e-mail last week, but so far no reply.

Couple of links for skirts and kilts. First couple are utility kilts, the third for Fijian Sulu.
