Hi Dennis,

Yes, the 'honorary cyclops' is now gone Both eyes are getting better
by the day. At my last 'test' about a week ago, my left eye(1st surgery)
is now at a 20/20-. I only missed 1 letter on the 20/20 line. My right eye
is getting close to that. Day after the 2nd surgery(right eye) my vision
became 20/25 as compared to the original 20/170 before surgery.

My Ophthalmologist said it will take between 4-6 weeks for my eyes to
settle down into normalcy. I do have to use 'cheeters' for close-up reading
and another pair at 1/2 power for my computer monitor, but I don't have
to wear glasses to drive. I can see the street signs about 1 block away
instead of waiting until I'm at the corner to read the sign.
That's a great feeling

What I haven't gotten used to, yet, is having air/wind blow into my eyes.
I've worn glasses for almost 60 years blocking the air movement.
That is a new experience.

Also the colors are more vivid and brighter than I've seen in many a year.
The day after my 1st surgery, my eye hurt due the brightness. Now I have
a good pair of wrap-around sunglasses and no more pain due the bright light.

There is hope yet

That's great and I'm really pleased for you. Unfortunately in my right, bad, eye I had a detached retina at aged 11 so there's nothing they can do for that one. In fact I was told somewhere early on that I might have to have it removed but it seems to be hanging in there. As it has nothing to focus on - I can't see any light at all even bright ones in it - it tends to wander. I, and those close to me, don't notice it any more. The other eye I could have done but I don't have any cataract and my more immediate worry is staving off diabetic glaucoma and associated bleeding in the retina. As long as I have sight good enough to live by then I am content. Maybe sometime in the future I will reconsider my options.

That's excellent news, Al! I wish you success in your recovery. I know it will make a great difference in your daily life.

BTW, perhaps my best day in a skirt was bumping into a couple US Senators, Bob Dole and Elizabeth Dole, up on Mt. Mitchell once. I diplomatically thanked Sen. (Elizabeth) Dole for supporting NCs Food Banks. I was in my old, worn, camo skirt, hiking boots, and a Red Hot Chili Peppers T-shirt. I'm not sure who was more freaked out, them or me!
