On my "Pics and Looks" thread I lead off with some of my very long looks taken several years ago. As one member here once noted, I am quite "steampunk resonant" so tend towards a neo-Victorian look.

Re: Items on eBay
I do like this skirt but unfortunately a size too big for me. It would be OK if it had belt loops but with just a side zipper it would end up around my ankles ........ even with 44% hemp, it would not stay high

Re: Items on eBay
I've been fairly successful putting elastic inside the waistband. It's a very easy operation. It gives a slight bunching around the waist, just as a belt does, but the bunching is more visible as it's not covered by a belt.

Re: Items on eBay
Very nice looking skirt. Italian sizes often seem to be on the small size. Maybe the seller would measure the waist for you.
If this chart is anything to go by then it's equivalent to a small:

Re: Items on eBay
Yes, 42 is normally OK and the table gives US 6 and UK10 as equivalents which is my size ..........but the label gives a US8 as an equivalent which I know is too big. I will ask for measurements I think.
Sizes! They worked it out for tyres to fit rims .......... why not skirts to fit waists (or spare tyres).

Re: Items on eBay
The one thing that I just cannot work out for the life of me is sizing...
Anthony, you mention a 42, so I'm assuming that is a size, then there's US sizing, UK sizing, AU sizing (which I think is the same as UK sizing but I'm not sure).... And then you might get something in a size 14, but a size 14 from manufacturer is different to a size 14 from another.
I know that at 6ft3, 104 kg (229 lb for those in the US) with a 95cm (37") waist, I'd take a larger size...but...what does that translate to?
That's another reason why I'm reluctant to buy too much without being able to really know for sure that it'll fit, and I've seen plenty that look like they'd be something I'd try...

Re: Items on eBay
When it comes to sizing items, I've found a quick and semi-accurate
'Rule Of Thumb'. That is take the size of the garment, in this case a skirt,
and double the number for your waist. A size 18 would equal about a
size 36(inch) waist. Works most of the time, at least for me that is
With the stretchy-ness of the fabric and elastic in the waistband, most
items will fit. There will however, always be exceptions to this 'rule'

Re: Items on eBay
Uncle Al - a take off of "The Rule of 20"
adding 20 to the misses (0-16) size to get the approximate waist
i.e. misses size 12 equals 32 waist + or -
Works as well with Junior sizing (1-15)
Your doubling method works just as well close approximate horseshoes in the ball park etc.
Plus sizes find a new rule to work with LOL
AND don't forget the VANITY sizing factor -
One perfect size 10 fits everyone with the elastic tape measure !

"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Items on eBay
That seems to work well for skirts, at least in UK sizes. For tops, I find the sizes need to be a couple of steps up (14 skirt = 18 top) otherwise the shoulders and arm holes are too tight. That makes dress sizing a bit hit-and-miss, because something that fits in one place often doesn't fit in another.r.m.anderson wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:40 am [...]

This is worse than 2 of my works skirts that I retired. Says that there is a small mark on it but doesn't mention the big holes!

You have a different eBay down under - no fashionable glitter just simply the denim works at work.

One way to consider it would be that it added extra cover the the important bits.
