Mountain Hardwear Mountain Kilts / Skirts

Post by CharlesF »

I recall a post a while back where someone was looking to buy one of the Mountain Hardwear Mountain Kilts. The original (wrap skirt) style was discontinued despite being popular, and was replaced by the Elkcommando which is slightly more kilt looking.

If anyone was looking for one, there is a guy over at xmarks selling some he bought by barely wore.

Thanks for posting that Charles.

One of the Original Mountain Kilts is now on its' way to a new home on the east of the great puddle. He still has one original and two of the El Kommando kilts for sale. (Shipping to the UK worked out at $18, not nearly as horrendous as some commercial suppliers would have made it).

Have fun,

Ian.

Well the Mountain Hardware Mountain Kilt has arrived and first impressions are very favourable. It is light, a good fit and the strap arrangement, while making it a little involved to put on should give a high level of confidence in breezy conditions, even without pressing the modesty snap just above the hem into action. There is a useful slash pocket behind the top of the apron on the left and a well disguised zippered pocket just above the hem on the right. I have a feeling that this will become a firm favourite for walking in warm weather when I don't feel like wearing the long Macabi, but want a skirt that can be worn to the pub. I'll add some pictures once I have had time to take a few.

I just wish that Mountain Hardware had not discontinued this.

Have fun,

Ian.

The Mountain Kilt is OK for walking on flat land. The hem (at least on me) is just a bit too long for hill climbing trails. Some day I might get ambitious enough to shorten it. I don't like how it drags on my knees, especially if I get even mildly sweaty.
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.
