Having grown up on the West Coast, there have always been stories, some will be untrue of course, but the MOD will only admit things when they get caught. Have a look here: https://britishseafishing.co.uk/submari ... incidents/, not all on the Clyde of course.

Sorry, way off Topic and I can't think of a hook to get back on....I don't even have a navy blue skirt.
Interesting read, thanks for that!

Militaries also operate under a shroud of secrecy, which is why specific numbers are not usually available unless there were independent witnesses present to see what happened and who wouldn't be cowed by the pressure to report what they witnessed.
Not just a shroud of secrecy but outright disinformation. I had training by the USMC for my photo-journalism MOS -- in part due to my top secret clearance -- a few of us were taken to Hollywood for this specialized training, even had a visit from a then current starlet (all surface fluff, no action :( ) as part of essentially telling us what lies to tell, with supposed rationale -- but it all came down to lying. That is not the only instance by any means in my experience with the USMC that may explain why beating the crap out of recruits to make them "Loyal" (aka Esprit de Corp) is necessary lest a lot of the real BS behind military actions becomes public.

I'm afraid this is "out and about" in a field far removed from the intent of this thread -- how about we start tacking/jibing back whence we came -- not sure how to turn that sub around.... :)

A FIRST FOR ME :!:

Yesterday, I was at the 7-11 getting $$ out of the ATM machine. On the way into the
building, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a woman walking to the door. I was just
opening the door to go in and said 'Here you go, madame' and she said thanks.
I was wearing my stretch denim, knee length skirt and a plaid short sleeve shirt.
(Hey it's still summer here at 81*F today.)

After proceeding to the ATM, low and behold "she" walked up to me and started talking.
She 1st asked me if I was 'Trans'. (How could 'she' think I was Trans with a beard down
to the middle of my chest, and a large bald spot on my head.)
I replied no, that I wear skirts because they extremely comfortable. She said a few other
things about a support group and tried to hand me a business card. I said thanks but I'm
not interested. Then, as 'she' turned away from me said, "Cute Outfit" and walked away.

I was gob-smocked for quite a bit........

OK - That's my $.02 worth for the day :D

Sounds like she was trans herself and felt sorry for you being such a failed example :)

Next question, Uncle Al....Was 'she' skirted?

Looking recently through two large chothes retailers here there wasn't a skirt to be seen anywhere.. They apparently all wear trews or leggings with tops now.

Sad, but hardly unexpected. Anything other than "leggings" ('80s fashion victim!) and tr*users is likely relegated to formal affairs or if the individual is "on the hunt".

I misread that for a moment as you telling her about a support group, possibly meaning us. Lol...

There must be some strange spores in the air from the concoctions a few our members have been claiming credit for in Covid thread -- because just today I had a 'similar' experience that has never happened before: I was escorting my parents to the walk-in Safeway pharmacy for flu shots, and the line was a bit extended with a three person limit on the waiting room....anyway, to make a longer story shorter than the line, I was "assisting" with traffic as there was another line for the pharmacy counter that was getting mixed up with the vaccine line, and in doing so I opened the door to assist a woman with mobility issues get a chair -- she said, "thank you Ma'am, or Sir..." as she entered. I too was 'gob-smacked' as I'm six feet of bald bearded clearly male personhood with hairy legs and the ONLY apparent deviation a calf length blue denim skirt -- though it did have a button down front. There were no further words as we were headed in opposite directions, but she did later make a point of thanking me generically for helping folks at the door on her way out.

Maybe some folks are so distracted by the skirt that is all they really see and jump to conclusions? I'm not offended, but indeed gob-smacked! And unlike you UA -- I did not get a "cute outfit" compliment!

I think it's much simpler. We've all heard stories about Machine Learning algorithms producing mixups, recognising animals that aren't there or mixing up types of flowers. Even cats and dogs get mixed up sometimes. This is not much different from how human brains work and it's easy to imagine that the first time confronted with a man in a skirt the brain jumps to the wrong conclusion.

Fortunately people can learn and after sufficient exposure people will start reaching the right conclusion. It just takes time (a generation or two to get to everyone I suspect).

I think she was trying to be courteous but wasn't sure if you were a failed transperson or just a guy in a skirt. I had a similar experience with an elderly lady at a checkout saying "thank you Ma'am", despite my beard and hairy legs. I didn't know what to say and just smiled and walked out.

I once assisted a very well dressed elderly lady step up a high curb, offering my forearm but she grabbed my hand with an air of familiarity, and thanked me with "You are a true gentleman". I was in a mini skirt which didn't faze her at all.

I've been called "Miss" and "Ma'am" more than a few times while out and about, even though I look absolutely NOTHING like a woman. That always amuses me, but, I never bother correcting anyone who uses that that title as I think it's kinda cool. Heh!
I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman.

Spent the day yesterday wearing a denim mini skirt along with a pair of tights.
Visited quite a few places throughout the day including a local supermarket and shopping centre and no comments / reactions from what i could tell.

My first time wearing tights, certainly feels different compared to bare legs but certainly kept me warm. Think this will be an outfit i'll wear a bit more often.
