Re: Our leaders!

Some confusion betwixt the two at advancing age might, then, explain "Voodoo Economics". (Bonus points go to anybody who can name the character that called the policies out as such.) I don't know much about Eureka College, but in the 1930s economics was a rather concrete subject where one...

Re: Our leaders!

As to Ronald, being a B-movie actor was hardly the best qualification for assuming the most powerful command on the Planet, yet the electorate put him there. Apparently, his best answer when asked if he had 'American Express' was....'That'll do Nancy!' Tom One bit of trivia that did go to Reagan's ...

Hear! Hear!

At least with NTSC, if the signal was weak, you still had a signal and the option of suffering through a snowy picture.
With the new digital standard(s), your picture may be perfect, but if that signal gets weak, you get no picture.

That power strip may also prolong the life of the machine too. Solid state components, like vacuum tubes, can have a service life. The current densities in the microscopic traces on the ICs can get pretty doggone hefty. It can get into in the hundreds of amps per square centimeter. (a 10 micron trac...

Re: Step 2

Translating "34 inch waist" into "size 12", is a tricky business. There's enough exaggeration by the marketing departments trying to flatter people the actual dimensions for a particular size number can vary wildly. That being said, stretched flat, the waist size shows up as half...

Re: The Arms Race

In short, the admin and mod staff have been busily at work trying to keep the miscreants out. I'd like very much to honour my partners in this -- Milfmog and Uncle Al -- for their assistance; without a presence "where the sun never sets" we'd be doomed. And the three of you have been doin...

I Kirk captained the 1701 and the 1701-A

In the movie "Star Trek, Generations" he did start off in the 1701-C as a guest for its maiden voyage, only to land in "The Nexus" when they collide with it, close to the beginning of that story.

Sorry to hear Ritchie go. I also concur with Paul's statement. From the largest "cloud" systems down to the lowly air cleaner sitting on my head board. His tools have and continue to be instrumental in making all of our lives better. (The Holmes Air Harmony air purifier has a PIC microcont...

Re: An interesting discovery

I wish I could find the picture I took about 10 years ago with me in my tiered skirt. It is a classic black "broomstick skirt" that I paired with a solid black Hawaiian style shirt with silver Chinese dragon embroidery on the front and my black cowboy boots. I then went shopping at the Nat...

Re: What happened to ...

Nope,
I was a chronic lurker and occasional poster back then.

The closest I came to it was a bus trip sponsored by my wife's company about a couple of months off from the date.
I did get into the Met that day and saw their Men in Skirts exhibit. That was cool.

The closing of an era...Payback!

I knew gutting the agency wasn't such a hot idea. I just didn't expect to see results this cool. http://news.yahoo.com/nasa-data-blow-gaping-hold-global-warming-alarmism-192334971.html I guess they no longer felt obliged to keep quiet on information contradicting something created by a group who's l...

Media bias...

I hear that. I love the way that they periodically report on how they unbiased (etc) they are. I find the dizzying spin on those stories particularly entertaining. Sensationalism really is all about playing up the drama. And drama sells. Rupert Murdoch wouldn't be the gazillionaire he is without it.

Sorry for the delay, but I figured I'd add a picture or two that kind of sums up the damage Carl almost got. First is is from the US geological survey and NASA. This is the tornado track, as seen from space. It is at: http://eros.usgs.gov/ecms/images/prodimages/masstornado_l.jpg The little black dot...

Re: The closing of an era

It is amazing the technology that has come out of the past 50 years of space exploration. The whole situation reeks like last week's diapers. I also don't think that NASA is dead yet, just "on life support" until the time we see a more forward looking administration. This current one has b...
