Re: Business of Fashion / "Men Are Changing. Are Brands Keeping Up?"

That's an interesting article to be sure, but it's got some serious problems where it (1) tries to integrate "Eastern" thinking with "Western", (2) where it invokes the #metoo "movement", and (3) where it deliberately links "sensitivity" to the modern notion ...

Business of Fashion / "Men Are Changing. Are Brands Keeping Up?"

Ran across this article while trying to find something on the history of mens fashion that I had read the other day. This is... interesting. Most of the pictures depict high fashion, which looks somewhat silly, thought the long pleated skirt looks reasonable. Also.. page is behind a paywall but if y...

Re: The Great British Sewing Bee

I'd love to be able to put my own skirts and tops together, but I don't have the time to learn such a skill right now from scratch. Maybe a pastime for retirement (in 15-20 years time) :-) I have a bit of sewing experience, but all self-taught. I just lined a skirt for the first time - it was reall...

Re: Sleeve slits - futuristic or fugly?

Forget the tops - it is the skirts that we are taking back one step (skirt) at a time ! FWIW, the example I sent was pretty ugly (in my opinion). And while I've tried on feminine style tops, they aren't really for me. Ultimately it is up to each of one of us what we think is esthetically pleasing -...

Re: Sleeve slits - futuristic or fugly?

Bad enough to have slits cutouts in de pants jeans but to have the cutouts at the elbow - EGADS ! I agree with this sentiment, but jeans are rarely, if ever, sewn with a structured slit. That is to say, in shirts the slit isn't torn, it's sewn in. Whereas with jeans I can make a pair of torn jeans ...

Re: Sleeve slits - futuristic or fugly?

And don't get me wrong - I sew and know how much time things take. But when you get a system down some things can be streamlined. And I will support things that seem high-priced but I believe in, such as Skirtcraft's skirts (provided they also look good, and aren't too expensive).

Re: Sleeve slits - futuristic or fugly?

The only abomination I see is... $350! Three-hunred-an-fiddy! Good God man! But hey... "loyalist" get free shipping! Whoohoo! LOL! I didn't even see the price. No no no - I paid something like $20 for my shirt (granted, it was discounted and from a European brand). Speak...

Sleeve slits - futuristic or fugly?

A few years ago I bought a black mock-neck top, long sleeves, that has these horizontal slits on the sleeves. At the time it seemed to me a "futuristic" style, sorta. This is pretty close - except mine is all black, and the slits aren't as pronounced: https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/pro...

Re: Buying through Poshmark?

I've been buying through Poshmark for years with no problems. I really like to browse and then give an offer that is considerably lower than the offer price (I remember only twice that I was refused without at least a counter, most times they accept) I'm a bit more cautious - I was blocked once for...

Re: New, I suppose

I really like those skirts. Can you share where you purchased them? I think they both look great on you. Are you wearing a belt? The green skirt is by: http://www.emmanuelle-nyc.com/ Not sure if they are still around - some images are broken on the site, and it was last updated in 2013. No social m...

Re: New, I suppose

Well, another late night at the office - we have a holiday party coming up and I got the task of 3D printing some snowmen, assembling, and decided that this could be a good way for me to get more comfortable @ work (but unseen, unfortunately). Odd that photoshop keeps cropping my head off  Not...

Re: New, I suppose

unless you're going to an external meeting Ah, well, the funny thing is I never have to go to external meetings, except one did occur last week and a skirt would have been fine, but then I'd have had a captive audience of three guys for a whole 40 minutes (each way) that it might have been awkward ...

Re: New, I suppose

No offense taken - besides this forum being mostly anonymous, and while I am fearful of what everyone around me thinks, I don't take offense easily. The jumpers are both "significantly" wider than my body and more than I'd like, I've been meaning to alter them, though I've never "sewn...

Re: Buying through Poshmark?

I realize this is an old thread, but I've been buying from Poshmark on/off for a year or so now, in my own name. Overall I've had good experiences, returned just a few items (for example, one skirt had a cut through it, was also mis-tagged). It has given me enough confidence again to even *think* ab...
