Re: Butchering the English Language

It's filler and different people have different ones. Sometimes even the word f*ck, though that's pretty rare these days and they usually grow out of it. This particular filler, however, seems ubiquitous across everyone who speaks English, rather than it being used by a subset of people. That's par...

Re: Butchering the English Language

So far, this thread has just been about the written language. What about spoken dialogue? That's even worse. Just think about the word "like", talk to... anyone, really, then count the many times they use the word as a filler, to quote someone/something, or making an estimate.

Re: The Herald: Eddie Izzard and our strange attitudes on men and clothes

To add: I don't think some of the people leaving comments understood what the author wrote. The author was advocating de-gendering and de-stygmatyzing clothes, albeit there was a trans bent. I then made the rather obvious point that they were telling me they would never wear a skirt while, in fact,...

Re: Skirts, the wearing of.

OK quit now. That comment was not meant to start the kilt/skirt debate anew. Sorry guys but I really cannot see how rehashing old news gets us anywhere. Steve. But what's happening here isn't a debate. It's vented frustration because most people already know what a skirt AND a kilt is, or they at l...

Wish I could upvote this a thousand times. I wish we had an upvote system to begin with.

Re: Skirts, the wearing of.

My wife calls my kilts legal skirts. (She knew about my skirts before I got kilts) The kilt was an attempt to bridge the kilt skirt gap. It did not make any difference with her. I'm still wrong for wearing a skirt or a kilt in her eyes. I'm not sure if I commented on this facet on your life already...

Re: Skirts, the wearing of.

An incident yesterday which left me amused and bemused all at the same time and it is not a reiteration of the Kilt/Skirt debate either. Yesterday out and about, nice day and had on the skirt in the picture but with a jersey, ankle socks and trainers. Comfy casual. Lady, obviously local "I see...

Re: The Importance of Punctuation

It bothers me how people use an apostrophe concerning decades. Instead of putting the apostrophe before the decade, it's often put after the last two digits with an accompanying "s". I hope I'm not being hypocritical about all of this, but it doesn't make much sense to put the " 's &q...

You beat me to the punch, @Coder. I first caught wind of this story a night or two prior to when this thread was posted. I initially thought the insensitive (and wholly sexist) comment didn't warrant the employee getting fired, but further reading the article entails that this particular employee ha...

Re: Virgin updates uniform policy

You reap what you sow. People who are standoffish and hate interacting with others will see that other people treat them the same way. Breeds discontent. I feel as though this is directly at me, because I don't go out of my way to make people realize that I'm introverted and my disorder makes me an...

Re: Virgin updates uniform policy

Yep, TSH, I find your comments to be bitterly pessimistic. You should seen the YT comments I made over the years. They're way more vindictive, nasty, and vulgar — moreso than I wanted them to be, looking back. I'm getting slightly better at keeping my angry at bay and just not reading the drivel I ...

Never give up on someone That ship sailed once I got to junior high. I agree with the principle of generally being nice to others, but I'm far past done expecting anything from people. People never change willingly; they do so only when it's convenient to them. We all get to make our own choices in...

Everyone you meet in life is going through their own struggles you know nothing about; be kind. Do not think for a moment I was being cold or callous in my comment! 'Tis very far from it, it's more a tale of caution so you don't accidentally harm. And absolutely, be kind in how you treat others. It...

Re: Skirts for Men: Why More Men Should Wear Them

I believe this cafe should focus on men who want to wear skirts as a man and not insult someone’s religion because you don’t agree with them. If "someone's" entire religion revolves around outdated, superstitious doctrine, they should re-evaluate their belief system. Said religion's doctr...

Re: Skirts for Men: Why More Men Should Wear Them

People are using a historical text written at a time when men wore skirts/dresses to argue men shouldn’t wear skirts/dresses. That’s irony. Questioning the legitimacy of the text takes this conversation off topic. Lambasting Deuteronomy is very much on-target, and the more people that get educated ...
