Given Galatians 3:28, I don't see how this matters either, actually. People are just using Bible verses to reinforce their own social outlook.

Bright colours, pencil skirts, and stiletto heels probably make more of a media splash than the dark utility kilts and Doc Martens favoured by many MUG-wearers.

Re: My newest dress

I wore a new dress today: a knee length jersey dress in horizontal stripes of navy and beige (over black tights), which I found in a charity shop. It's very comfortable, and I'll definitely be wearing it again. I wore a raincoat over it to the supermarket, and as it isn't hugely warm, I wore a V-nec...

Re: A standard skirt for work....

I'll start with a question, why settle for "standard", most females don't? I say most, because it depends on the job and employer in question as much as the individual. I was talking about fashion and gender with my wife last night, and she commented that if she worked in London, there wo...

Re: More gender neutral retail

search Wildfang on the Urban Outfitters site produces no result. As for their own site, my impression is "butch/masculine", but without men and still trading on that stereotypical view. I actually left a comment on the Wildfang website, and got a reasonably emollient response. I wrote: &q...

Nice skirt! Being a wimp, I would probably go for the dark green one before daring to venture into purple!

“If I wear this top, and this skirt…”

With pants, it’s grab this and grab that…ok to go!
That rings true with me! If I'm feeling tired or rushed, then it has to be a trouser day! And footwear suddenly becomes an issue.

Re: Let's never speak this word again

It is interesting how even spectacle frames can be gendered or neutral. My 16-year-old is currently identifying as non-binary/genderfluid, but has chosen to wear rectagular black glasses which seem rather assertively masculine compared to some of the available options. I tend to head for neutral-ish...

Re: Let's never speak this word again

Almost on topic! I just visited a local opticians to see what styles they had in the showroom. The receptionist motioned to the other side of the shop saying "the gentlemen's frames are over there". I responded (perhaps slightly abruptly) "I don't care: I'm looking for the shape, not ...

Re: My slip is showing!

I know the ladies have pretty much given up the slip, and more My mother still wears them, but she's 88. I remember as a child looking at her collection of slips, stockings, bras, suspender belts and such, and thinking that I was very glad I didn't have to wear such complicated clothing. The dress,...

Seems sensible to me: if you are known for wearing skirts, then trousers are the ultimate disguise!

Re: Let's never speak this word again

In the UK women were wearing trousers at work and out and about from the the onset of World War one. There are also other examples from history, lady cyclists wore heavy bloomers from Victorian times, all of which pre-dates Ms Hepburn. Where in 1970 would a woman have been arrested for wearing trou...

Re: David Tennant presenting BAFTA Film Awards in a Kilt

David Tennant is Scottish and wearing a kilt for a formal occasion is no big deal. For some reason he changed into trousers half-way through the show. It's a very smart, non-clan kilt, worn with modern boots. He may have changed for comfort: I would have thought that a full weight kilt with woollen...

When asked "why the kilt?", I have quite often replied "my trousers are in the wash".
