Re: Christmas greeting 2021

Seated with a low 'C' Susato whistle in fine tune, I wish Forum members a memorable Christmas 2023.

Alas at my age I am playing it to fewer of my remaining friends nowadays.

Tom.

Re: The Spectrum: I Don’t Care that Harry Styles Wears Skirts

I am an admirer of Mark for his bravado, physical fitness and ability to hold down a job selling Porches while dressed like he does. Very few people manage to wear skyscraper heels throughout a day and those who do must need the extra altitude. I saw a photo of an N.Y. street taken immediately post ...

Re: Male anatomy

They say that if you don't have an ear for music, don't try learning to play the violin....or any other non-fretted stringed instrument. Early on I discovered that I had no eye for a ball and try as I might and did, I scored zero points at all ball games. Enter boat-shoving, or competitive rowing. A...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

On Sun. afternoon our choir took part in a larger church concert, contributing some classical motets at the beginning, one accompanied by a string quartet, then a medley of spirituals at the end with which the punters were encouraged to sing. All very jolly, but our dress code was strictly male blac...

Re: Weather in your location ?

Some bloke here predicted last June that come Nov/Dec/January the days would be darker, shorter, colder and perhaps even wetter. He was right and his prophesy has come true.! Just today we motored about 25 miles on a twisty country road to a village high in the Wicklow foothills to croak in a Christ...

Re: Problems with Private Messaging

Sorry to read about problems with your relationship, Carl. I do hope they resolve themselves soon. You could do with a strong steady one, there. My long term sailing buddy and former partner in a boat lost his lovely wifey to Cancer three years ago. He met and shacked up with another for a time, but...

Re: Is this my good side?

Uncle Al, You make a very credible Santa. I was amused by an accordionist lady who sailed the Baltic with my Shanty-choir in 2019. She referred to her 'Shokoladenseite', translated Chocolate side, meaning her best side for photos. As far as I was concerned, for a mature lady she looked good from all...

Re: Hello from Sweden

Welcome Seb, and I expect that rural Sweden is indeed a dark corner at this time of year.....even darker than here. Your story was of great interest and I note that you have your wifey on board. Advantage nr. One. You're probably about half my age, so you have a great many years of skirting before y...

Re: A Tall Masted Sailing Ship

A stunning example of the cake-maker's art, but despite the nautical theme, it departs from reality somewhat. It would indeed be a pity to sink a knife into it! On my 21st birthday I won my very first Rowing trophy and my dear mother baked an amazing cake for me & my crew featuring a long boat w...

Re: Pleats, Front or Back or Who Cares

Not that I run anymore (old people don't run!), but by definition short and lightweight for running is the apparel norm. From the hips down the shorter the garment the more essential modesty measures are required. Girls competing may wear very skimpy bottoms but they are bulletproof opaque, so when ...

Re: Sixty years ago

At that time I was sharing a double bed-sit in Leeson Park, Dublin 2 with my nearest Brother who was studying Dentistry with me. It was evening and we were both studying in our bedroom when our landlady shouted up the stairs to us from the hallway that President Kennedy had been assassinated. It was...

Re: Kilt length - advice requested

Yes, 24" max for me. That gets the hem down to the kneecap when standing (6'2"). I prefer a bit shorter, though. I submit a pic. of a Sportkilt at their standard length of 22.5" Benjy the dog certainly approved. Alas he is no longer with us, having served out his allotted dozen years....

Re: Weather in your location ?

That description could apply the our weather systems the entire year round. People who come here do so not for fine weather, that's for sure, but if they get a few days fine, that's a bonus and when all the attractive photos are taken. With an average temp. of about 10 deg. Centipede (48 F) Summer h...

Re: Shortwave

In 1948 my parents invested in a Pye Radiogram which at that time was equipped with a 78RPM player with Auto Change, a '40s luxury. Most interesting however was the valve radio part, which had a lot of space devoted to shortwave frequencies and muggins here listened to all sorts of English-language ...

Re: Boots/legwear

Wow! SkD, That outfit should grace your 'recent outfits' thread. To even contemplate wearing skyscraper heels like that you need to be after serious altitude. Some of us have plenty of that already, so heels like that would be totally out. I reckon that outfit is just right for the Lord Mayor's Banq...
