I work at a large corporation with an official "gender expression" anti-discrimination policy. I wear long hair with a barrette at work and I'm valued by my colleagues. So... why don't I wear a skirt in the office? I asked myself that question, and here's why. Like most people, I work in ...

innovation award for denim kilts

Anyone else spotted this? http://www.cottoninc.com/LifestyleMonitor/LSMDenimIssue/?Pg=11 As I've been wearing my own denim kilt for the last few days, I feel suitably gratified at being on the cutting edge! So, I put on a pair of shorts today, as the kilt needed to go in the wash. And took them off ...

I thought Wednesday's programme was interesting too - all about gender and dress. For those who missed it, or who live abroad goto: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/ and select listen again. Wednesday's programme is there, but today's programme isn't there yet, because it is still being broadc...

That's a very nice looking rig, sir. Good job. The Scottish kilt needs a shorter jacket for it to look "right"; hence, standard mens' jackets look "wrong" with kilts. Standard mens' jackets, however, look fine with skirts because there's no other "context" to judge the...

Just had a look round their website. Wow! It's not what I'd choose, but that's not the point. It's good to see something different on offer.

"Some of the children are confused." I suspect only if they ask questions, and only then, after their parents have tried to interpret what you do/how you are in the light of their own prejudices. By and large, children build their own view of the world, and happily accept that people are ...

I remember reading an article last year that said that men should wear suits and plain ties because it was the best way of hiding their body shape.

Marvelous. Presumably the "fashion writer" was paid for these pearls of wisdom.

Better than a smack in the teeth, and at least she gave it some thought, even if it was a bit of odd question!

I, too, wear women's jeans because I find it very hard to find men's jeans in a waist 28, length 32. When men's pants are found in this size, they are usually just cinched up versions of the larger sizes. The thighs are way too loose and sloppy on my small body. I think most mens clothes are design...

My problem with using a bag to carry all that junk around is that knowing my forgetfulness, I'll probably set the thing down somewhere, and then end up forgetting it. That would be a very EXPENSIVE and costly mistake for sure! I'm the other way round. I keep the things I usually need when I go out ...

Why these receptacles are called thus, I cannot really conjecture, as they seem to be invariably worn at the front , and never at the rear, as the name would suggest. I'd always assumed this was yet another 'word twist' from the USA, but no doubt someone here will have a definitive answer! Bum bags...

I'm one of those who hates socks with sandals. I have three pairs of sandals for all occasions (yes) - fabric tevas - good for walking in, and two leather pairs which are smarter. One pair's got the strap between big toe (like flip flops), so sock are out anyway with those. if you have to wear socks...

I'm sorry to raise this, and maybe it's just me, but to my mind urinals prove that the world is not designed by men for men. Or that men are not as good at designing things as they think they are. Or that men who design urinals wear trousers. Or maybe women design urinals to get back at men. Anyhow,...

This looks like an exhibition that started out some years ago at the V&A in London and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. There's a book, and the photos on the website and some of the text is taken from it. Its by Andrew Bolton, simply titled Men in Skirts in the UK, Bravehearts Men in Skirts ...
