Re: Why waste the money.

Oh those are fun! Sure it looks like the cast of some new television program for toddlers but why not show something like that? Thanks for posting that link, phathack.

Re: Skirts show up in the Luciano Soprani 2011 Summer Line

That's a nice find for the styles, phathack. The models themselves were an unimpressive lot though, their general awkwardness took away from the clothes they were supposed to be showing off. Quite a difference from the guys here proudly sharing their looks in the photos section.

Re: I think that is it.

Oh Pythos, I'm so sorry the cost of your lodging is her clothing approval. Even if you weren't living with your mother is would be hard enough hearing her displeasure at your style. In your case it also cuts you off from the much needed joyful activity of outfits that lift your spirits. I wish she u...

Re: Finding Myself on the horns of a dilemma here.

GothScot, what you wear has nothing to do with her so I can understand why the conversation might have caused confusion. People are probably pretty free in telling her they don't approve of her life in some way so she is also likely wary about the motives of people who want to talk to her. Chalk it ...

Re: Whither SkirtCafe?

Like most things in life I think it is a combination of factors slowing the Cafe down. There is just less material to work with for skirts than hobbies or other interests. Other forums I am on also seem so be dwindling and I think Facebook may be a part of that as people move their friendly chatter ...

Re: Reversal of Pythos!

First thing that comes to mind is if your wife knows about her son making those negative remarks and how much it affects you. From what you describe Dennis it sounds like he feels free to mock your taste in all things so talk to her, she is the one to tell her son to behave appropriately. There is n...

Re: early 20th century parallels?

You are quite right, boca, that there are parallels do be drawn between the two movements. The first one is that it truly is a long road of changing opinions and it never really is over. Prejudices will still pop up and surprise you from time to time. United States Senator Barbara Mikulski from my h...

Re: My intro

Welcome among us, runfan! Your intro really has me thinking abut what society accepts in familiar contexts. Cyclists are regularly seen in coffee shops in my area in their lycra outfits and nobody bats an eye yet a man in a skirt often nixes an outfit for being the slightest bit revealing. Something...

Re: Bad news, good news & $64 question

My heart goes out to you Brandy. That long road of illnesses and wondering when it will end for our loved ones is wrenching. I am going to be the voice of dissent here and offer an alternate opinion. Unless your father is still alive or another partner of your mother at the funeral that would take o...

That is a funny and hopeful story, Chris. Exposure does change minds. It probably is true that men in skirts in general are not so off putting as uncoordinated men in skirts.

You and Peet were wonderful, wichor! No matter how it was cast by the show you two were positive representatives of men who wear skirts and spoke well. It was also nice just to see and hear the two of you. :D

Looks like the man has a drinking mug on a belt loop suggesting he has come from a renaissance festival. Bet he got a lot of nice compliments there from people who like variety and maybe he'll be encouraged to try the kilt in daily life as well if he doesn't already.

There is a huge grin on my face right now. That first photo has such a delightfully outlandish costume and I love it. How neat that the skirt becomes the least noticed element among the mask, hot pink leggings, and hairy purple sporran!

Al, http://www.caring.com/ has been a great caregiver resource for me. You might find the burnout sections in particular good for you and your wife.

Skip, those four hours were an amazing gift. I am glad you had that time with your mother.
